I'd be satisfied with an issue BLR in .450 Marlin - basically the old .458x2 American on steroids (new powders).

I've never seen a BLR converted to .458 Winchester - just a .338 Win Mag BAR converted to the big .458, in one of the gun rags, about 15-20 years ago.

I would contact one of the big-name rebarreler's in Prescott, AZ, for advice & that work.

that would bee a big mistake, Z-Hat just sent me an 1895 I sent him 4 years ago
to be re-barreled from 270 to 358Hawk, and guess what !!!!!!!!!!

I can't get a set of dies from him ...

Yep $3000,00 invested and he won't answer e-mail from me or the wife, and I can't
get dies and load a single round .... he has no phone to call and his address is a
UPS drop box.... but he has a lot of great excuses ....

I have few names for him but nothing I can put here ..

If you want a rifle re-barreled, I sent 2 savage 99's to a company called Mazys in AZ ..
had the work done and the rifles back in less than 8 months ea ...
one a 99E from 308 to 358win. the other was a 99F from 308 to 7mm-08, workmanship
was great, as was the service A+++++ in my book ...

http://www.mazys.com/

good luck with your project and I hope it goes well ...

Sorry for the rant about Z-hat ....

Howdy,

I know that when I make up my mind for something I really want it. I don't know if a substitute will do but a 50-110 will reach the lower level of a 458 win. I have loads that push a 547 gr. lead gas checked bullet right a 2000 fps. Not true 458 power but man I don't know if I would want any more recoil. :? It's fairly common to convert 86's or 71's to 50-110. Just a thought!

As light as a BLR is I would think it would be a killer on both ends.
