OT - an old Winchester Standard Model 1906 pump .22 rifle

Post by new pig hunter »

so I'm sittin' at my dad's house today, he says, "hey, look what I found way back in the closet."

According to this website, it's a Winchester Standard Model 1906 in .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle, with 12-groove slide handle:

I checked the serial number at this website, which only indicates the rifle was made after 1934:

The bluing is incredible: deep and rich and clean and clear. Obviously my dad never had this rifle out of the case very often.

Here's some pictures, I hope the links work:

Hi Carl,
That looks like a nice 06 Winchester.
I have one, but it is no where near as good a condition as the one your Dad has.
Mine shoots really well and is just a fun little rifle.
Take that one out and shoot it - you will be in LOVE.
Pop.

I love mine as well. The finish condition was so bad I had to have it bead blasted and reblued. Yours is absolutely beautiful. It will really shine with an original Lyman #2 tang peep.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Very nice. I do have a question though... just how far back does your dad's closet go!?

Not very often do you see one, with that much original blue or the gumwood stocks in such nice shape.$$$$
Real nice!
I had the tang sight for it up to about 4 weeks ago. You want either a Marbles stamped "W9" or a Lyman stamped "WS". Repro mounting screws can be bought from Joe Hulett, at www.aperturesnmore.com.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

mklwhite,

it's not that the closet is so deep, it's just that my dad's 92-year-old mind isn't so deep as it used to be. I have no idea why he was poking around in there .... and he can't remember either.

On the other hand, 2 months ago the magic closet offered up an old Iver Johnson single-shot .410-gauge shotgun.

Cheers,

Carl
