Joe,
Neat video. 2 for 2. Sounded like a bolt gun, what were you using?

I thought it was interesting that ONE little piggy ran off those deer and then the little piggies were such piggies that they continued to dine right next to the two dead hogs.

Re: Hunt at Navarro - 35 Remington
The 'kinda' hunt that memories and bragging rights are made from.
And shot with a supposedly underpowered obsolete cartridge. And as always, I have great faith in the ability of the .35 Remington and its 'little brother' the .32 Winchester Spec'l. to get the job done if the shooter does his/her part....
Good shooting!

Re: Hunt at Navarro - 35 Remington
Neat !!
Worked with an Asian immigrant man years ago. He told me when he was pretty fresh off the boat and didn't know any better at the time, that he had went pig hunting with an M1 carbine... I tried to tell him how under powered the round is and not to use it, but could never convince him because he had kilt two piggies with one pass thru shot of ball ammo LOL... No license to boot!!... He did learn tho that the US has hunting and fishing laws and now is a naturalized citizen and abides by them...

I love it.
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

A lot of folks don't "get it" that hogs will drive off deer. They compete directly for plant-based food resources and the hogs are omnivores. After they eat all the stuff the deer might be interested in they'll start working on some other crop, including the deer.
Hogs have no conscience when they are at the trough. I've had hogs literally push their fallen brethren out of the way to get to the corn under the dead carcass.

I also made meat this year with a 35 Remington but I was shooting a 200 gr cast bullet at 2100 fps. That was some good shooting though.

Very interesting what happened with the bullet in the second big hog.
Re: Hunt at Navarro - 35 Remington
Nice, I have my gun sighted in with 158grn .357mag bullets and 200grn hornady ftx bullets. I wonder how those will perform at around the same speeds.. We will find out in a month now won't we...

It's coming up quick, just a month and a half away! I'll probably bring a couple rifles, haven't decided about one, but the other is the 470. I'll have plenty of ammo and I expect everybody to try it out at least once.2ndovc wrote:Man I can't wait for January!!

Re: Hunt at Navarro - 35 Remington
Have a coworker who just put down a WY Bison with a Marlin in .35 Rem.
It worked for him (3 or 4 rounds (??)), but he wants to borrow my 95GS the next time...
I think it's a neat cartridge. Kind of a .357 UltraMaxMagnum...

Re: Hunt at Navarro - 35 Remington
This video was linked on another sight. Since I'm " hog wild" on the 35 Rem, thought I would resurrect it. Also since the 2014 leverguns hog hunt has been announced, this might get people interested.

Navarro, as in down near Corsicana and Hillsboro? Was that one of the W.I.H.A.s?

Thanks for bringing this one back, Mike! I remember seeing it when 86er first posted it. And being much impressed! And since that time have acquired several 35 Remingtons.rjohns94 wrote:This video was linked on another sight. Since I'm " hog wild" on the 35 Rem, thought I would resurrect it.

Re: Hunt at Navarro - 35 Remington
Well just bite the bullet and get yourselves one (or several). I don't dare look at "Gunbroker" to see what is available for fear I might end up with another one. I'm up to 6 of these 35 Rems now and need to thin the herd but I like them all. And I realize I don't yet have a model 8 Remington, a model 760 Remington, or a bolt gun, so there are 35's out there that could too easily seduce me...30wcf wrote:ME TOO...aarrrrgggghhhhh... :OBigahh wrote:Them 35 Calibers just keep gnawing at me !
