OT--Whoa!! New Chronograph

Post by Sixgun »

Fellow Guncranks,
This is my third chronograph. The ad in the American Rifleman made me rush out and get this. Its kinda neat, looking like a 105 howitzer round. Everything gets stored in the body, but does take a couple of minutes putting it together. The "head" comes off and there's two wires that you plug in to the unit and to the head. So you keep the head on the bench with you. Great for guys who are "long distance eye challenged" or whatever you call semi-blind people. :D

I'll see how long it takes before I plug this one. :D Well, all kidding aside, I never did plug one even after probably 15,000 rounds with my other two. I did smack one with a gas check one time though.

Oh! The price------$130

Gonna test her out this Saturday. :D -----------------------------Sixgun

I've been waiting for those to hit the shelves. Midway had those listed almost a year ago but haven't had any.

super cool and I'll be waiting for the ultimate "guncrank's" review!

Nice, but what I would like to see more pics of is your gun room. Looks like the kind of room you can walk into and just look for an hour taking it all in.

I saw that ad too, looks like a nifty setup. Let us know how it works out. My old ProChrono has been acting up lately, might have to replace it with one of those. I'm having a harder and harder time seeing the little numbers on mine, it would be nice to have the display on the bench.

I have one of these chronographs, but haven’t tried it out yet. It is a singularly attractive package! This model was announced by RCBS for years before finally becoming available at the start of 2010.

On one gun forum, it was opined that these chronographs would not sell well, because the design was too “cute” for manly riflemen. But aren’t guns themselves, especially those designed when technology and art were perfectly mated, things of beauty, prized as much for their aesthetic charms as for their other formidable merits?

Sixgun,

A couple questions:

Does that chronograph require a heavy duty tri-pod, or will a standard camera tri-pod work?

What kind of critter sleeps in that bed behind the heater.

Joe,
Just any camera tri-pod will work. The chronograph has the standard female 1/4" X 20 threaded hole. I pick up these tri-pods used at junk sales or "here and there". I usually don't pay more than $10 for a $75 pod :D

The critter that sleeps behind the heater is "Skittles". She's a 11 yo Yorkie and bites everything--just the way I trained her. Next to her is "Eddie's" bed. Upstairs there are 10 more :D

Thanks Jason, but don't forget, I started this gig back in the early seventies when things were much cheaper. Much of it was considered common. Back in about 1970, the real collectors only wanted engraved guns or like new specimens. They turned their nose up at 85% 1886's. 1894's were only wanted if they had special order items. 92's and 95's were everywhere. :D

Sixgun,

Thanks. I saw the add for that chrono in the current American Rifleman and decided I was interested. I've never had one so I want something simple that will work. That looks like it would fill the bill.

Skittles is a cute little ankle biter.

In the pic with Skittles, directly to the right of her nose, is a box of Western 44-40 ammo. What vintage is that, and what would I expect to pay for a box like that (full of course) in .45 Colt?
