1886 Win 33 WCF

Post by Huntsinmtns »

New guy here with some Win 86's and I need some info if anyone can help. When did the 86's go to blued recievers, did they make any 33 WCF TD's with a case color reciever. If needed I can get pics. Nice site and I have found alot info already. Thanks in advance. GR

Welcome to the fire!
Pictures are ALWAYS welcome here, especially ANY leverguns! 1886's are especially welcomed by some who frequent this site. (Hint, Hint!)

According to the info I have, the first blued receivers were made in August 1901. (#110348)

I don't know if the 33s were ever case hardened.

The blued receivers became standard around 1901, but a few earlier guns were blued. No CCH after that date unless on very special order.

I have heard/read that no takedowns were case colored, even going back to the first TDs in 1894. All blued. I've never seen a case colored TD so I tend to believe this to be the case (pun intended :D ). I suppose there could be a few special order ones around though.

That's a nice looking Winchester family, and I'm glad to see a 71 in there! Welcome to the forum
