I want to hunt hogs in Texas.........????

Post by rbertalotto »

My business takes me to Texas usually once a month. It would be no issue to tack on a day or two to either end of my business trip. I'd like to hunt hogs with either a Handgun or a Lever Action.

Is it possible to do this on public land or should I simply hire a guide or package hunt?

What size and type of hogs would I be hunting. (Pictures?)

What area of Texas is considered prime?

What time of year is best?

Thanks in advance.............

Year round hunting - license is $45
What city are you near?
It would be no problem for me to get you a guaranteed hog in NE Texas in a half day. Regular price is $375 for a hog over 100 pounds. They average 150 pounds but we've shot them up to 275 pounds. A meat hog under 100 pounds could be done for $75 less at the right place.

In South Texas I can do a hog hunt for as little as $250 including an overnight stay in the lodge. The price depends on the method of hunting and the ranch we are on. There are no guarantees.

I have a bunch of other opportunities that start at just $99 for an all day and night hunt - you sit overlooking several feeders as long as you want within 24 hours. No guarantee but we'll show you trail cam pictures of the hogs there every day at different times.

On public land your odds would be very low unless A) it was a draw hunt position B) you had ample time to bait a spot and maintain it for at least 5 days (not all public areas allow baiting) C) you hunt at night with the right equipment (not all public areas allow night hunting).

PM, call or e-mail me with your interests and I'll arrange something for you.

East Texas is definetly the place to be. There are plenty of people around that hunt hogs, I'm sure that you can get a hunt anywhere and anytime.

This one was taken at one of 86er's places. I think this one was #165, the second one I shot was @ #185 if I remember correctly.

In Texas:
a. any and all
b. Deer rifle.
c. If it will cleanly kill a deer it will also work for pigs. Depending on the hunt you may want a scope for early and late hunting, but not a must. I prefer something that gives you the best chance of putting them down quickly. You would not believe what/where a wounded hog can hide/die under.

Hello,

The biggest problem with public land is just how little there is.
You can find hogs all over Texas. If you are in Texas
you can find a hog hunt within an hour fairly easily. Success
will range from guaranteed to it could take a few days depending
on the weather/drought. Lots of central TX is pretty dry right now
and sometimes the hogs can move out of an area and not be back
for a few months. Size can range from footballs to the occasional
300 pound big boy.

I got this girl last weekend. She was 4 yards from the base of the ladder.
Shot almost straight down and got the top of one lung then the
heart and bottom of the other lung. 25 yards away one stone dead hog.

Trapped 2 other 100 lb sows and 6 footbals and still have about 20 targets
running around according to the trail cams. Going back Saturday!

Joe's the man to contact.

Football's. Now that's funny. We thankfully don't have hogs in Washington State, that I'm aware of. Never hunted any anywhere.
