OT- Johnny Ringo's Lawyer's business card.
W. K. Makemson and partners were big time criminal lawyers in Georgetown, Texas at the time Johnny Ringo was being brought to trial for his involvement in the Mason County "Hoo Doo War". The war was between the German settlers and the cattlemen in Mason County. This is in the hill country of Texas. The cattlemen believed the German settlers were stealing their cattle so the war was on. In 1876 Makemson, Posey, and Fisher were Ringo's lawyers. The card dates from around that time. He eventually went to jail in Travis County with Manny Clements, John Wesley Hardin and other gunmen of the era. Makemson was in the Texas 5th cavalry during part of the Civil War and in 1863-1865 was sheriff of Williamson County. Later he became a Texas District attorney and ran for Governor in the 1890s. Ringo left Texas after he got out and went to Tombstone and you know the rest of the story. This is a neat piece of Texas history that I pick up a few days ago.

Interesting find. Do you actually have the card or is it just a picture?

Amazing it has survived. Is the practice still operating?.
I am sure the Texas Bar Assoc would love to get their hands on, and preserve and display that card.

You know, in one of the recent Earp movies, Michael Biehn played Ringo. He actually has a strong resemblence to the photo above.
