OT- prayer request, tragedy

Post by 86er »

Yesterday night Deputy Sheriff Kurt Wyman was hoping to finish his shift and attend to his wife. A call before 9PM for a barricaded man kept him there longer than anticipated. You see, his expectant wife was due to deliver their child that evening. Both Mom and unborn child were holding off as much as was in their power so Kurt could be there. At 2AM the suspect broke out of his garage and fired upon Oneida County N.Y. Deputies and other officers that were assisting. Only Kurt was hit by the gunfire, and he died. I cannot fathom the pain this young lady is endoring, mixed with the blessing of the baby. The youngster will never know the father that made the ultimate sacrifice for his community. Please keep them in your prayers today. Thank you.

That literally makes me sick to my stomach. I can't imagine the pain the family is going through right now during a time they should be enjoying one of the most preciouos times of their young lives. I can only hope the trial will not be lengthy. Prayers for all of his family. Go with God for you've paid the ultimate price.

Hence, my statement hoping the trial won't be lengthy. The only bright light to an otherwise tragic situation.

Wow. There are some things just to horrible to understand.

Beyond words that I can think of. Prayers for the officers family. I know it is not right, but people like the perp are beyond forgiving, may he roast in hell for ever.

A little bit more is coming out on this. It seems the suspect is alive, in critcal condition with several gunshot wounds.

It also appears the deputies were trying to SAVE the man from killing himself. His GF had already fled the house and the only one in danger was the man who threatened suicide. After 6 hours, the SDs rushed him and he shot the Deputy with a shotgun at close range. Three other officers shot the suspect several times to disarm him.

Opon hearing the news of his death, the slain officer's wife went into labor. Wyman was 24. He is survived by his wife and their 18 mo old child, as well as the unborn child.

From the NY edition of YNN:

Press Release from Oneida County Sheriff's Department
Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol regretfully announces that earlier this morning June 7, 2011, Deputy Sheriff Kurt Wyman, 24, was shot and killed in the line of duty. At approximately 8:08 p.m. on June 6, 2011, Deputy Wyman and Deputy Mark Chrysler were dispatched by the 911 center to a domestic incident at Christian Patterson’s residence at 5488 Knoxboro Road, Town of Augusta. During the domestic dispute Patterson threatened to kill his live-in girlfriend, Shannon Secor, and himself. Secor fled the residence and was aided by a neighbor. Deputy Wyman, Investigator David Nowakowski and Sgt. Robert Nelson negotiated with Christian Patterson, (D.O.B. November 23, 1970), for approximately six (6) hours. Patterson armed with a shotgun refused to surrender and made numerous statements that led the deputies to believe that he was going to cause harm to himself. At approximately 2:00 a.m., as deputies attempted to take him into custody, Patterson shot and killed Deputy Wyman and shot at investigator David Nowakowski. Thereafter three (3) members of the Sheriff’s Office returned fire. Patterson was wounded and is currently at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.
