Walked in this morning to find out our owner sold the company to one of our competitors. No word on what will happen yet...

Thanks guys. Our owner came in this morning and gave us the word, the service center is officially closed so now you can add one more to the list of unemployed.

I'm wound a little tight right now but not giving up hope. Things happen for a reason whether we understand them or not and the Good Lord looks out for us.

Ironically the father of one of the computer techs works at the service center of the competitor who bought us so I've given my contact info to the tech to pass along to his father. I figure they'll need additional bodies since they just acquired 58 stores.

Even more ironically, the computer tech can't go to work there as they do not allow family members to work together. How's that for a kick in the pants? :(

I HATE when that happens! I've been unemployed
on very short notice once or twice myself.

You'll get through it. And with a little bit of
luck, you'll thrive.

Good luck, buddy.

Very sorry to hear this. I really hope something works out for you. I have been dealing with unemployment for too long now ( carpenter- work has been off and on three years, mostly off) and hate when others get caught up in this mess.

Sorry to hear. I'm still recovering from a bout with unemployment myself. It was very tough, but I eventually found a better paying job with good benefits, and I don't hate going to work every day. I'm hoping for the same outcome for you. Just keep truckin'. God is in control, not us. Hang in there!

Once again, thanks to all.

Right now my main concern is keeping SWPUWM (She Who Puts Up With Me) on an even keel. She's naturally emotional and a bit high strung which is a bad combination for someone with Meniere's Disease (inner ear condition). Stress is a major, major trigger for the attacks. And here I'd just gotten her back to normal after she'd spent the last three weeks in a tizzy over The Boy and PFDiL (Probable Future Daughter in Law) splitting up.

As for me, I'm already hitting the job boards and found a few interesting things. Tomorrow I'll hit the nearest Texas Workforce Commission location to put together a resume, etc and see what they have in their listings. And there's still the possibility of going to the new owner's service center as well.

Outside of that, it's all about attitude and keeping my chin up. AFAIC, it's just another case of Charlie Mike.

Start looking up former coworkers that moved on to other companies. That is the way I've been hearing most peopel getting jobs lately. Employers don't advertise jobs , they get recommondations from existing employees who know other people in that field of work. So contact former coworkers and you could get a heads up on a job. Good Luck!

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. I did get a nice package though. After a few months, the company that bought out my old company, came and talked to me and hired me. Basically the same job, better conditions, and a nice raise. Hope you have a similar experience. Good luck.

Cross yer fingers, toes and anything else you can! I just spoke with my former co-workers father and they do need a tech. It's just a matter of the opening being posted so I can access it.

I do appliance service. I spent 6.5 years with an un-named company (they used to bring good things to life  ) before the beating of walking into someone's home for a distinct lack of fun and games got to me. A few months before I left, we became the supplier for a rent to own company and part of the deal was we would provide warranty service at their service/distribution center.

Their appliance tech had no experience to speak of. He had been brought into the center as a logistics type and when they decided to do their own service they found an independent servicer who let him ride along for two weeks of "training" For someone with mechanical aptitude but no real training, two weeks is enough to grasp the very basics but that's it. He did a commendable job of learning on the fly but when I'd go in once a week, he usually had questions for me.

One day I made an offhand comment about needing something different because I couldn't take the in home abuse much longer. He and the manager were both in the shop area and said "We need a REAL tech if you're interested!" Well I'd often said that if I could do that kind of work in a shop setting instead of the home, they'd have to fire me because I would never retire. I kind of had to back my words with actions...

In many ways, it was a dream job for me. The guys I worked with were great and we had a good time as much as possible. Once I proved I knew what I was doing and made suggestions to improve our service, they pretty much left me alone to run my section as I saw fit. The only real pressure I had was what I put on myself to show their faith in me was valid.

If I'm rambling, I apologize. We had a tight crew and great working atmosphere that's going to be hard to replace.
