SoCal gunsmith wanted

Post by redrider03 »

Hey guys. I have a replica 1886 Winchester and I want to have a gunsmith check it out. I think the firing pin might be a little long. But anyway. Do you guys have any opinions or experiences u want to share? Thanks

No, I'm between 'smiths right now. So, if you find a good one let me know.

There's a guy in Van Nuys I might try out; he's not a gun shop, just a smith, and seems to be busy. He talked me out of a job I was considering. I would try him myself next time I need it. Stop in and see what you think. He probably won't answer the phone, and he's closed Fridays.

I'm on the wrong end of the state to help you with finding a gunsmith, but I am very curious as to what your rifle may be doing that makes you suspect a too long firing pin? :?:

There's plenty of experience right here on the Leverguns.com forum, maybe a little more information could lead to some answers.

Wow - Handy info as I live right here in LA

you rekon those guys can cut a dovetail if I want to extend the tube on 1895G 45/70 to a full length tube?

not sure I would consider doing it myself - and shipping my gun allover the place just makes it cost twice as much.

thanks

In OC try Lee's Gunsmithing. I've had him work on my cowboy guns... top notch. Tell I said call... or not... your choice.

redrider,

We can fix that minor irritation. We'll meet halfway: in Chino. Bring the bolt, I'll bring the necessary tools and diamond file. Lunch at my favorite restaurant (Centro Basco). Then properly fortified with lunch and wine, we'll have no problem making that firing pin a wee bit shorter !!

A pal of mine recommends a fellow in Hemet: Jeff Tandy. His phone may be: (951) 927-2574. Word is that Jeff is a former Marine sniper, so he should have some good knowledge.

Another recommended gunsmith, Gruning Precision, in Riverside:
