glass bedding

Post by two bit okie »

all righty then, put the new stock on the new rossi and have gaps and the stock wiggles a little. No way that the stock is going by by. I will use the JB weld unless I get negitive feedback for others who have tried it. I have the jb weld from a different purhase and it has never had the tubes opened. the gaps are at the back and along both tangs. I said I was not a stock maker!!!! I also have the Johnsons wax in the round flat tub, tin, can what ever you want to call it.

also, before I order from brownells, is there and colorizer available to at least make the jb stain brownish.\????

I use this dye from Brownells.
Brown Dye, 5 packets

But, I don't know if it will work with JB weld.

I use this stuff.

It works with the dye.

That wax made get you in trouble with the rough inner surfaces of the Rossi.
I use this releasing agent from Brownells.

I sure would not use JB Weld or Johnson's Paste Wax.

I used a kit from Brownell's on several projects, and it came with brown stain. I've also used JB-Weld for stuff that won't be visible when the gun is assembled. Both work, and the paste-wax releasing agent from the Brownell's kit worked for both.

For the small cost of a complete kit, I'd do that instead of just buying/adding dye to JB-Weld, and save the JB for other stuff.

I've used Acraglas many times, with and without dye.

The System Three stuff looks worth a try.

Sorry guys, are you talking about glass bedding a levergun in the usual sense of glass bedding, same as a bolt gun, or am I missing something here.

Uaually you would bed a bolt gun to improve accuracy. In the case of a levergun it's often done to prevent a stock from splitting due to poor inletting.

I used epoxy wood filler on a Winny '92. It's the tape type you knead to activate, got it at Home Depot.
It'll take stain. It stands out a little only because it has no grain.

two bit okie,

Why don't you try this link from rimfire central. It explains how one gentleman beds his 10/22 action. I've never bedded anything myself, but the way he explains how to do it seems pretty straight forward so even I could do it.

I used Turtle Wax the time I bedded a wood stocked model 700 that had been in the rain with me. I sanded the wood and used the Turtle wax on the barrel, then used fiberglass reinforced Bondo and had a rifle that was again as accurate as it had been straight out of the box. The Turtle Wax released well, and the Bondo was strong enough that I haven't had a problem.
