I have a 1974 vintage 94 receiver I want to refinish. I tried cold blue on one a couple years ago and it didn't hold up.
I stopped by Lauer custom weaponry to check out Duracoat. Now Steve wasn't in but the gentleman there said it goes on as a pretty thick coat. He said more than 1mm thick. So I don't know if I want to go that route.
Correct me if I'm wrong but this vintage receiver won't take hot blue very well, or will it? I have local places to take it to for hot bluing.
So if you have tried some of these newer finishes let me know. Also I really don't want a dull finish.
Case coloring isn't out of the question if it will work for this type receiver.
Let me hear my options . Thanks
Finish options for 94 receivers?

It will take case hardening well.
Kind regards,

Winchester didn't go back to forged steel receives until they brought out the Model 94AE.
You could have it powder coated. A guy in our town does guns (mostly duck and geese shotguns) and did a Model 94 not long ago. He did it in a real deep black high gloss and it turned out great. We all thought the stampings/ketterings would be partly filled by the powder coating. Not so. It came out really sharp and crisp.
