It never gets easier, we lost our last boy kitty ... :(
A couple weeks ago Obie Dose, our 13 year old boy kitty started bloating. He gradually blew up so big he looked like a pregnant female. Due to many things we weren't able to take him to the vets until last Friday. We left him for treatment and diagnosis. After draining off the fluids in his system the vets found a tumor. We were going out to the vets today to discuss possible treatment when we got the phone call. We lost him last night some time. My wife took the call and said the vet sounded like he was almost in tears too.
The diagnosis was a tumor that had poisoned his system and blocked him up.
At least it wasn't a drug out death.
In his life we know he sired lots of babies before we got him neutered. We could sometimes hear him singing to the girls for blocks around. Later after being "fixed" he still made his rounds and still sang to the world. I think many of the neighbors hated him.
He caught birds once in a while and even bagged a couple of squirrels too.
He was hell on paws to outside interlopers, but kind and somewhat friendly to the other kitties we adopted over the years.
Last year we lost Charlie, Obie's friend for many years. Obie grieved. You could see it. For months he'd go outside and look for Charlie. I honestly don't think he ever got over that loss.
He slept with us most every night. Most of the time tucked up under my wife's chin on her pillow, and sometimes curled up by my arm with his head on it.
Rest in peace my little friend, I'll see you at the Rainbow Bridge.
Joe

Sorry for your loss. I'm a cat person now - used to be a dog person. Loosing one is hard, I've done it twice. The one I have now may outlive me.

bulldog1935,
That is a sweet little kitten.
OI,
Obie's friend Charlie that died last year was golden white. Your pair mirrors ours.
Baby them while you can.
...............................................
Ji once told me he was tired of having pets he's loved die, so he got a tortoise. A pet that will outlive him. I totally understand.
I am horribly down today. Got a bunch of things I could do, but I just don't want to.
Oh well.
Joe

Re: It never gets easier, we lost our last boy kitty ... :(
Condolences and sympathies, Joe. Never easy to loose a friend even the 4 legged variety.
My old Siamese from Maui "Misha" has gotten old and decrepit we've had to get loans of over $2000 over the last couple years to keep her alive. I told my wife I want to change her name to Winchester '86 since her vet bills cost me my dream gun.
She made 16 this month, strictly an indoor cat. My dad's cat Waffles lived to 22 (outliving 2 of his masters) before cancer got him, and he was healthy as a horse until 21, and an outside cat. Go figure.

Sorry for your loss Joe. Some of us wish we had the chance to see ours til they were 13. Always gets me when someone has a pet til 18-20 and mine left at 12, doesn't seem fair at times but such is the way of things. .DT

It took me a little time after seeing the title to the thread to open it up. I put it off, knowing how painful the message would be. While it is no comfort to you, I am so, so sorry you lost your pal.

Tough break Joe. You are right, it never gets easier. But we still keep getting more. Why? Because they are better than people. What they give us during their short lifetime outweighs the grief when they pass.------Sixgun

I've been thinking of going to the Animal Control place and checking out their adult boy kitties. See if they have one that's already neutered and looking for a home.
To have all girl kitties is not right. Between them and my wife I'm out numbered 6 to 1. That is not fair.

Sorry for you and your wifes loss. We lost our Cat about 16 months ago, still think he is jumping up on the bed from time to time. I hope a little sunshine enters your life this week. Sam

Good on you, Joe. I'd go for it. I just took in a stray, kitty #2J Miller wrote:I've been thinking of going to the Animal Control place and checking out their adult boy kitties. See if they have one that's already neutered and looking for a home.

for me. She was pathetic when she came to my door, weighed only 4 lbs.
She's an indoor cat now and is on the mend.
