longbow // so i found myself in town

Post by pokey »

with some time to kill. i spied a sign that said, huge sale.
well, they didn't have one huge for sale in the whole place.
just a bunch of tables with knick-knacks on them. but what is
that green stick in the corner? i picked it up and went over to
the old gal collecting the money and asked about it. she [ of
course] didn't know anything. selling what's left of her late
husbands stuff, i recon. i knew what it was, even under the coat
of green paint someone had applied [ popular in the 60/70s ].
she had a low price on it, but i did not feel good about the number
so offered her 20.00$ [more than she wanted ].

so after removing the thick green, here is my buy of the weekend,
that is a martin longbow [ ml-10 ] 70" 65 lb draw.
65 is a bit much for my shoulders these days, so i'll probably redo
the finish a little more and move her along to someone that is
still young and strong.

Pokey you have found a real treasure. As bad as my right shoulder is I would have to shoot it once anyway.

Pokey, that's a very good use of a $20 bill!

I'm using archery to strengthen my shoulders. I'm up to a 42lb draw bear recurve, let me know when you're ready to move it down the line... :)

Nice find. I love Martins, I have 2 Martin Vision longbows. One 50 and one 60. The 60 puts a 550 grain cedar arrow through the traps at 217 fps. I feel much better shooting the 50 pounder though. Someone told me at a shoot one time that Martin is famous for being conservative on their pull weights. I'd say there might be some collector value there. Congratulations.

Darn, I had one of those, but I seem to remember it was 50#. Left it at home when I went in the service, and when I got back, it was gone. Strangely, my first an orange "fiberglass" 35# was still there. Gave that away to the local Y as I figured they'd get more use out of it than I.
