Need info and value on a Randell knife

Post by dkmlever »

I have been asked to sell a Randell knife for my brother in law. Some pictures are below. Can anyone tell me the approximate age and model number of this knife. And a fair price to ask when I do sell it?
Overall lenght is 10 5/8 with the blade about 6 inches long.
The blade has been sharpened both top and bottom but appears to be in good condition. The sheath is in good shape, I took a picture of the back of the sheath showing the name and numbers and it does have the built in sharpening stone with stone in the pouch.
Thanks, any info or advice is welcome.

Looks like it's a Model 12 'Little Bear Bowie' from a little research I did on google. There's a similar model minus the brass butt cap on:

Personally, I wouldn't hazard a guess to it's value, but there are plenty of Randall experts out there that might be willing to give a straight appraisal.

Nice knife!

It's a model 12. As to pricing, the outfit I buy from has one with a maroon micarta (new) for around $600. But this is the place to go. Heck someone there will likely snap it up. But before you do, let me know what you are selling it for.

Go to the Randal catalog online to see the cost of a new one. Be sure when you look up the cost to consider what options it might have.

You might also check ebay for a current price.

eBay is also a good resource if you look for closed auctions that actually sold and had multiple bids, and also items offered with a "Buy It Now" price.

There's one on eBay now exactly like yours (a Model 12-6) but with the less expensive hard wood handle for a "Buy It Now" price of $425. I see one closer to yours (micarta and nickel silver) sold for $475. Like new with stag handle (no grip cap) sold for $490. New with stag sold for $549.

With this in mind I suspect yours is a $400 to $450 knife, but without better pictures that's a wag.

Thanks guys, I knew it had some value but not "up to speed" on randells.
PM coming to you Jeepnik, if the others that responded are interested in it, PM me before I transfer this to the classifieds.

And, it's Randall, not Randell.
You'll get farther with knowledgeable potential buyers by using the correct name. :)

I was just going to mention your spelling. Not to bust your chops, but you're more likely to get people to take you seriously as a seller when you spell the name of your goods correctly. Good luck. - DixieBoy
