Somewhat OT but about gun stuff. anyone use Painters Tape

Post by Cliff »

I just had to make a comment on this Painters Tape. I got using it around the house not for painting, but securing boxes and packages. I found it nice to use to keep cardboard ammo boxes, plastic boxes and misc. containers closed up. It peels off without tearing the underlaying material and doesn't seem to harden with age like masking tap, or duct tape. I find it in three colors, blue, green, and yellow/orange. Handy to write on so you know what it is keeping closed. Only been doing this for month or two, but haven't had any disappoints with yet. It is not suitable for packaging tape or sealing envelopes or boxes for shipment, but nice on those little small plastic boxes you use in the shop, which will pop open if dropped or even bumped sometimes. I just thought I would mention it. I like it and it isnt all that expensive. Hope I am right about the not hardening. It seems to be handy stuff. ATB

Hadn't thought about it. I always have tons of it. I use it all the time, but for painting guns. I have some ammo boxes that are tough to keep closed when traveling, but tape tears them up worse.

This is what I use it for:

That painter's tape is handy stuff. I mostly use it for labeling little boxes that I am using temporarily for something and will re-use again for something different.

And wow! that's fancy stuff you do there, 7.62. Do you take on any commission work? If I sneaked off with my buddy's old Model 1886 and got you to do it up in pink with the pony, wouldn't he be astonished?

But seriously, that would sure tickle a couple granddaughters I can think of....

Yes, I use the blue for everything. It does not leave adhesive residue like standard masking tape does.

Is it too thick for use as paper patch material for cast bullets? I hear Teflon thread tape works well for this use.

I wonder if the teflon tape would melt and leave a residue in the bore?

Did a search, seems like people who tried it either loved it or hated it about a 50/50 split.

Read post. Saw a roll in the laundry room tought I'd try it sometime. Moments later I knocked a container of carpet tacks off the pegboard & spilled them on the floor (obviously I'm in bare feet). Cleaned 'em up, went & got the painter tape & wrapped that flimsy plastic container shut.

Thanks for the idea.

I use the blue for masking the stock and barrel when glass bedding a stock, two layers is just right for free floating a barrel.
