Old holster, from 1894?

Post by M. M. Wright »

Got this old holster with a really good SAA that was made in 1894. The friend I got it from thought maybe it had been with the gun for a long time. I really like the look of it and may try having one made just like it.

I can find no makers mark but the holster and belt are from the same leather. Belt has been extended but is still about a foot short for me.
Maybe RR7 will have an idea of where it was made and when.

Looks like a handtooled job and very well done. But....I'm no leather expert. Lets hear about the first gen Colt....those I can talk about.-----------Sixgun

I will second on the Colt, if We haven't seen it by all means get it out in the limelite. I have a Holster Rig that I picked up at the YC Gun show the other day. I will get some pics and post them.

Looks to me like a "bunkhouse" pinking job on an H.H. Heiser holster...

Really could be Buck, I can just make out, (in the right light) the letters iser on the pinked circle. Is the style old enough to be '94?

The holster could certainly belong to that era..

H. H. Heiser set up in Denver in the late 1850s and bought out the Gallup & Gallatin shop in 1874, and continued making gunleather.. The simplicity of the design and the curved (or circular) loop over the holster body are almost seen as Heiser "trademarks", but are not absolute guarantees of Heiser manufacture..

Holsters of that style were popoular in the '90s and early 1900s..

See the book PACKING IRON, by Richard C. Rattenbury for additional photos & information.. Photos on pp. 183 and 186 show holsters of the style that you have..

Would be nice to know who took the time and trouble to Pink the edges... And why...
