No lever but a killer Christmas present!

Post by 2ndovc »

I have such a wonderful wife and family! She's never done this before so it was a total surprise!

She told my buddy that runs one of his family's gun shops to watch and see if I show any real interest in anything the next time I was there. So while I was making a deposit on the M1A a couple weeks ago I spot this FN M 1949 8 MM Egyptian contract in the rack and asked to look at it. Near perfect condition with an aftermarket muzzle brake ( Should have been a threaded cap) but not big deal. Really wanted it but still owed a couple hundred on the Springfield so I handed it back. So he gets one the phone and then Blondie gets on the phone to my parents and her boys and comes up with the cash for the rifle! When I was there last Friday to pick up my M1A I noticed it was missing and asked about it. "Nope it went with the rest of the semi autos". Darn, but that made sense.

Well last night we had the place to ourselves and she says she has a big surprise, now I've been sick as a dog since Saturday so I wasn't sure what she was up to. :D She stands me up and blindfolds me and I'm thinking that it's not the worst way to go, then she hands me this thing that started to put a big smile on my face!

Image

Really am a lucky guy! I usually don't get a lot for Christmas as I like to get her and the boys some good stuff so this was a real shocker. She knew I'd had a rough year and have been so much happier with my new company she wanted me to have something really cool to remember this year!

What a sweetie!

What a great gift from a great wife! (and family). Glad to hear that your new job is working out so well. Hope that you and yours have a prosperous and blessed New Year.
I've always thought those were cool rifles in a great caliber.

By the look on her face I think she got more joy from giving than you did from receiving. I think she's a keeper.
Congratulations. The real gift is your wife herself.

Jason,
That is super. :D You've got a great gal there.

The rifle and Blondie both look in superb condition.

'Ya think she could use another husband? Come on, good friends share. :D ---------------Sixgun

On another note, let us know how the rifle shoots and feeds. I see these from time to time but have no personal experience with them and have read/heard little about them.------------Sixgun

My former father in law had one of the Luxemburg contract rifles in .30-'06 that shot like house on fire! Accurate and fast. The "Bch" was he chopped off the butt stock and put a big thick red rubber pad on it and then re-finished the stock with a shiny varnish! Ugh! Was a big dollar gun then and he just ruined it!

I spent most of the morning digging through my odd ball ammo cans looking for 8x57js, came up with about 100 rounds! Then to Midway to look for dies, brass and bullets @ another $150, but what the heck? I can always use another caliber to load for! :D

Funny thing is, while I was digging around for 8mm Mauser ammo I found about 500 rounds of .30 Luger! I haven't had one of those for years and completely forgot about that stuff. So do I sell it off or find another .30 Luger?

Very nice! I've got one just like it. Shoots GREAT, and runs mild U.S. spec ammo perfectly. Enjoy!

Have you done any reloading for yours? I've got about 100 rounds and was going to order bullets, brass and dies shortly. Read through all my manuals and most recommended starting with a 150 grain bullet but their mainly talking
K 98s. Probably where I'll start and maybe a box of hevier bullets. I've got plenty of different powders to try.

So I go to my buddy's shop today to return the case that he sent the rifle home with her and I ask what's behind the counter.

He hands me a Russian Berdan II, Czarist 10.75x58r single shot Bolt action 1882 infantry rifle.
Mis-matched but an excellent bore and decent shape. I asked how much and he said $275 and I said Sold!

Emailed my bro that's Way into the Russain stuff and he told me it's an easy $600-700 rifle!
