.30-30 makes chorizo

Post by ving-thorr »

javelinas are not the most delicious table-fare, but a hoot to hunt. I was still-hunting the San Pedro River here in southern Arizona and came upon a herd spread across the river. I managed to take a pig from either bank before they scooted out of the river and into the mesquite thickets. The shots were probably all of 15 and 20 yards, the first piggy walking, the second running, iron sights would've been alot handier as I had trouble finding the piggies in the scope set on it's lowest setting 2.5. Used the hornady 160 grain flextips over 30 grains of H4895.

.

Chorico (we pronounce it "churese" ) & peppers in a red sauce surely floats my boat - My wife's Portugese, so I've been into that stuff for over 45 years.

I halve a sub roll & hollow out each half, so I can stuff the resulting tube with wow........

Being able to hunt along a running creek or stream in the middle of the Sonoran desert, makes it even more so.

BlaineG,
This was the first year (since i've been down here) that you could get two tags instead of one. You could get one in the draw and later buy a leftover tag, though your second tag had to be for a different hunt. But since the west bank is a different hunt unit than the east bank, i got a tag for either side and crept right up the middle.

I always wanted to try hunting these mini musk-pigs. We had one at the Honolulu zoo for many years and he was the sweetest little critter, always loved to get his back scratched. I'm sure raised in captivity, and musk gland removed as he never smelled bad. His stiff hairs reminded me of a hedgehog.

I always had problems on moving animals with a 3x9 or 4X scopes I used for deer hunting my current lever gun for deer hunting a Marlin Guide gun in 45/70 has a older Weaver 1.5 x 4.5 variable and that 1.5 is fast to use since there is very little magnification just .5. Congrats on the successful hunt.
