mistake?
So..scoping the 35rem, went with an inexpensive bushnell 1-4x32 light weight scope. There were three options, a shotgun scope with a circle plex, a duplex rifle and a circle plex rifle. I like the circle plex, I shoot it well so I got it. Well it turns out the circle plex is parallax calibrated at 50 yards..not 100 like I thought. For a low magnification scope, out to say 200 yards max, will this be an issue? Did I mess up?
Re: mistake?
I'm am a fan of inexpensive Bushnell and 4x scopes in general.
I'm unable to provide a technically substantive explanation to explain exactly 'why', but I don't think you'll have any problems.

What FWiedner said...
From a practical perspective (good word choice, huh), wrong parallax just means that if you don't have your eye centered well, you will be off a tiny bit. For precision work it might matter, but before switching it out, I'd shoot a fifty yard group, then taking-care-to-center-your-eye, shoot a 200 yard group. Repeat the 200 yard group with intentionally casual or slightly misaligned line-up, and see how much it really matters. I'm betting not too much if you're just talking "minute of venison".
On the other hand, if you needed an excuse to get a new scope, I guess you can go for it...!

Re: mistake?
hope not, looks like an ok scope for 80 bucks, almost went with a vortex or a barska euro for not much more, but I really am not sure they are that much better, and I liked the magnification and size of the bushnell better. Sorry about duplicate post, because I asked the casting question, the forum told me I couldn't post..then posted twice.

Re: mistake?
Parallax is potentially more of an issue at shorter ranges - using a scope set at 150 yards and shooting it at 25 yards gets you a lot of parallax. Using a scope set at 50 yards out at 200 will be much less of an issue and nothing to worry about on something the size of a deer. Don't worry about it.
Re: mistake?
I have one of those low-power shotgun scopes on a .41 Magnum carbine barrel for the Contender and have no problems with it at all. I have only used it out to 150 yards.

Re: mistake?
If you find it an issue aat 200 yards, pm me I will tell you how to rectify it.
But shoot it first.
Why did you buy a variable

Re: mistake?
I'm no scope expert, but I always thought 'Bushnell' was just the lower-cost line made by "Bausch 'n Laumb" (Kind of like Elanco was Eli Lilly & Co.), and I've never had a problem with a Bushnell. On the other hand, I thought 'Barska' was a Chinese-made import of varied and often dubious quality. Please someone educate me if this isn't the case, so I don't continue to be stupid about it...n2t wrote:. . . almost went with a vortex or a barska euro for not much more, but I really am not sure they are that much better, and I liked the magnification and size of the bushnell better.

Re: mistake?
I figured I would be ok with 1-4x, they have a fixed 4 with the same dimentions too, but I thought the 1x would be nice in thick stuff.

Re: mistake?
I figured in the choice between a 1-4 and a fixed 4 there really wasn't that much diff, it just happens that for some reason they made the parallax on this version of the scope 50 yards, and on the same scope with a diff reticle configuration 100, no idea why, as they also have a dedicated shotgun scope in this configuration, just an oddity I guess. Or they rebadged the shotgun scope and didn't change anything, not sure.
