Sling for a Rossi 92

Post by a__l__a__n »

Continuing to trick out my Rossi 92, I'm now looking for a sling.

I saw some older threads recommending the Quake Claw sling for the Rossi 92. I got the impression from reading the thread that the best way to attach the sling would be to get the model that attaches around the barrel and forearm with a choker loop, and on the rear with the included nylon swivel. For example:

http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... ng#p423232

However, after a good bit of searching I can't find that model. Everything I see for sale online either requires finding a way to attach a front swivel, or else it attaches with choker loops on both ends. Some of the descriptions I found online state that "Stock and/or barrel loop models have looped ends for attaching to firearm without the use of sling swivels" - for example:

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/168510 ... vels-nylon

But I don't see a way to order those models. And I don't see mention of it on the Quake website.

Has this been discontinued? Or am I missing something?

Thanks!
Well, if it ain't loaded and cocked it don't shoot.

You can attach a regular sling with no alterations to your gun. Use a tab of leather between the barrel and magazine tube with a chicago screw and a tab on leather under the butt-plate with one screw retaining it and a hole with a ring-loop on the exposed end.

I like the Black and Decker or Dewalt type mounts.

Should work OK on a Rossi, I use them on pre-64 Winchester 94's, pre-war 94's, Brownings, etc.

Interesting. That looks like a better way to attach than the Claw model with loops on both ends.

Thanks. I may end up going that way but I'm nervous about damaging the magazine tube.

Double sided tape is your friend with the tube mount, it will hold the mount in place and keep it from rotating with out over tighting it

No, it's the old fashioned way, drill holes in the gun. I've used the magazine band type in the past, but wanted soemthing that looked more period correct and cleaner, so started drilling the front band. That doesnt give much thread grip (about 1 1/2-2 threads), so I then started inletting a knurled nut in the wood under the band. It can be adjusted to index correctly, and is about bombproof. The rear stud is self expalnitory, just drill a hole and screw the stud in. I toss the white spacers, they dont look very good on lever guns.

:D Actually, that would be a sling ring sling, as the so called saddle ring was originally intended to be used.

I have one of these. Although a bit pricey, it is very nice and works on multiple guns. Downside is that it is not adjustable for length.

.

I've had this Cordoba nylon carry strap for a million years (sic), which I keep in a pocket or haversack for use on any of my long guns that aren't equipped with QD studs.

Long out of production ( Uncle Mike's ? - I misremember), it's not very hard to sew one up (or have it done by a cobbler (HD sewing machine needed if not hand sewn).

The small loop goes around the bbl/magazine tube & slid to the forend tip & tightened, then the other end cradles the butt ( small piece of elastic band hold it on while unslung).
