Bullet mold handles ??

Post by rjohns94 »

Are they all the same? Lee, Lyman, RCBS? I got a round ball mold (mould) from Jeff Tanner across the pond for my 16 bore flintlock fowler. I now need handles. Lee seems most economical. I had a Lyman pair but the handle snapped off last time I used them. Your thoughts please?

I have Lee, RCBS, Lyman & Seaco. Except for length of the jaw, (single, double, or 4-cavity), RCBS, Lyman & Seaco all interchange. The only Lee handles I have are for my 6-cavity Lee molds. My few single & dual-cavity Lee molds have integral handles. Sorry I ain't much help. If no one answers by the time I get home tonite, I'll look again.

I'd say some are interchangeable, some aren't.

Tanner's site should list what handles to use.

I have large and small Lyman handles and Lee six cavity handles.
Twice I have tried RCBS mold blocks and none would fit.

Lee's are cheap enough to "make fit" if they don't fit perfectly.

They really are brand specific. Some holes are drilled differently and the thickness of the metal is different. But.........if you play around you can make them fit. -------

Lyman makes large and small handles for various mold designs they offer.
I have modified mine to work with both.
They are different than Saeco or RCBS though. Since I have handles from both of those makers I have never tried to inter mix brands.

I have all Lyman moulds except for one Hoch Mould. The handles that I bought with the Hoch (may have been Saeco?) had to be filed on to let the Lyman moulds pivot so they would seal. It was a very easy modification and worked great after that.

Thanks. I took the suggestion and looked at the links and the website. JT says his molds work with lee, RCBS, and Lyman. Got one ordered. Thanks.

Lyman and RCBS use the same handles. Saeco needs to have a different handle as the screws that hold the blocks on the handles are bigger.
The Lee handles can be adapted to the Saeco, if the holes aren't already wallowed out at the factory, you can drill the holes to the required size.
I like the Cabine Tree locking mould handles. They'll work with all brands of moulds and the locking feature really helps in producing match quality bullets.

The Lee 6 cavity handles will fit the Lyman and RCBS molds. Don't have any experience with the Saeco.
