Labor Day has been just that .....

Post by new pig hunter »

A pal of mine was having problems with his Remington 788 (.22-250), so today's Labor intensive project was to fix it.

It has been in storage for who knows how long. All the oil had turned into glue. The hammer was stuck down, the firing pin would not cock.

Lots of Hoppe's elbow grease. Disassembled most of the trigger assembly, then soaked it all in Hoppe's for awhile. Disassembled the bolt, more soaking. Some Outer's Foaming Bore Cleaner.

Upon reassembly the Safety Lever bits & pieces needed some extra fixing/adjusting. Everything then hosed down with space-age no-dry-up lubes. All systems working just fine.

It looks pretty much like this one:

A very enjoyable project for the day to get this early '70's era rifle up and running again.

Cheers,

Carl

Nice! (Are those older Rem 22-250s subject to worn throats and bbls?)
