I have one of the originals. It is one of the more underrate little .380s around. I hope the new one works as well, but since when did Remington get back to making handguns?

A few years ago they brought out a pretty nice Remington 1911 A-1

I too have one of the originals in 380, Remington made them in 32 auto too but they command a little higher price since they are mostly sought by collectors. I've had several of them over my lifetime and they are really great little pistols. The old ads touted them as "feels like the hand of a friend" or close to that. I can recall a couple of times mine felt very reassuring in my hand down in my overcoat pocket. I gave one to my middle son for Christmas and am sitting here making plans to trade my 3906 Smith and P-1 Walther for a couple of these babies.
We were just saying a couple of weeks ago that the action should be able to handle the 9mm Luger and thought that Remington should re-introduce them. I'm really glad they have done this.

I bought a new Remington 1911-R1 a few years ago, and like it just fine;

I hope the new R-51 is as slim in width as the gennie P-51 - which I loved, be was leery of shooting & breaking a part on a 90-year-old handgun.

Looks kinda like a Walther. But this one's a 9mm - good decision on Remington's part. Price is very attractive. I already have the small 9mm carry pistol thing covered though...

I like that!!
Very "Buck Rogers" was my first thought.
Also like that it's Alum. and Steel instead of the usual poly and that
it's a 9mm.

One of those might replace my Sig .380

If you think that's space-y looking, check out the Mauser HSc, which has been on the market for 70 years...

We all need to stop living in the past (some more than others). But its a neat design, clean, compact, thin, and light. A pistol designed to actually BE THERE at hand, when you might need it the most!

At the MSRP of $389 ($60 bucks under an LC9), it looks like Remington is after the little plastic Ruger 9mm... ?

No plastic, no mall-ninja rail... here's hoping it has great magazines at an affordable real-world price. I like so far.

Good on Remington, and great times for the first new re-design upon moving out of anti-civil Rights New York state!

I guess I missed it....are these DAO? I'm interested in a non-polymer pistol, even though I'm a big Glock fan.

I had a Kahr CM9 and really liked it, except for the mushy trigger. I planned on replacing it, but might wait to give one of these a try first.

No, Single Action, grip-safety, internal striker.

Don't see a "second strike" capability.

Glocks are DAO and they don't have a second-strike capability (nor would I want one). Where did you find your information?

Okay, so I'm sleepless from the flu and found this...

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014 ... 51-pistol/

No pre-loaded striker so it is a single action. I'll be very interested after all the beta-testers pay above MSRP to have one "first" and the market calms down.

If this is even half the gun it's being purported to be by reviewers, I'm so in for one. Some people call it sci-fi and I can see that, but I'll go with retro-modern. Either way, it's stylish IMO and given the fact it's probably going to come in under MSRP... Yeah, sold.

Glocks are a pre-loaded striker, not a true DA.

I don't really care about double-strike capability, since the statistics given by those promoting it always seem a little too good to be true. Except when re-trying a cartridge on another weapon when a particular weapon seems prone to misfire, I have not seen any consistency in misfires firing when the primer is hit the second time. Maybe if the primer strikes are only marginally heavy enough it would be an advantage.

In a reliable pistol, I'm not bothering with a re-try - I'm getting rid of that cartridge with a slap-charge-squeeze.

I need to work on getting holsters going for these.

A double action raises the hammer from the fired or a rebound position and drops it with the pull of the trigger. A single action requires the action to run to cock the hammer (or striker), or the hammer can be cocked manually. Then the trigger releases it.

The Glock striker is partially cocked, and then the trigger pulls the striker back a little and drops it, so it is neither DOA or SA. ATF had no idea how to classify it at the time, so they called it DAO.

This Remington pistol has a hammer and is a single action. Several striker-fired pistols are double-actions, and the XD is striker-fired and a single-action.

The Glock system is a good one. You buy a 1911 to show to your friends. You buy a Glock to show to your enemies. As I said before, I don't have a need for a second strike.

The R51 is a SA hammer fired gun. Looks like a sweet little gun with a single stacked mag.

Looks like a sweet pistol, even at MSRP. If shown the articles and pictures, I would have put a guess in at over $500. Retail under $400? Heck, I'd buy one and be happy to get it.

I'm going to have to save my nickles and dimes now, and bug my favorite shops to get one
