Winchester toggle action 'smiths near Illinois

Post by KWK »

Any one know of a gunsmith in Illinois or an adjoining state who does major work on the 1873 and 1876 Winchester designs?

I feel an urge to have one made up the way I'd like, with a slender round barrel and a short magazine. This would require a new barrel and wood, and of course I'd want to have the action smoothed up.

Looking at the links from the main page, I see Nonneman and Hunter are in Missouri. I'm not sure if Nonneman does much with the toggle link actions. Hunter's color case work looks nice. Regardless, a 'smith in the northern half of Illinois would be convenient but not essential.

Thanks.

Send it to Mike Hunter. Mike does all my color-case work and does beautiful Winchester restorations. If needed, he can make a barrel for you. He even has an engraver that can mark it correctly if you want the correct fonts and sizes.

As Steve Young noted, I specialize in the older Winchesters, to include making barrels for them with the correct markings. And yes I do have the roll dies for the majority of the pre 1920 Winchester lever guns.

Mike,
I am rebuilding a Marlin 1895 square bolt and I would be interested in having the barrel stamped properly for a Marlin. Do you do them also, and if not, do you know anyone that does?

I don't have Marlin rolls, that would be something ha I would have my engraver cut.

You may want o call Doug Turnbull, he likes Marlins.
