I never liked the full moon clips. Too cumbersome to operate without the tool and I have had revolvers that just would not accept them without a lot of jiggling.

I prefer the half moon and then only if they are military issue as these are made from quality spring steel, unlike the repos that bend.-----6

In the pic are a few lighter colored ones that have square corners. These were found in a WW1 war vets belongings.

Understood.......I may go straight to auto-rim, or, a friend was telling be about a polymer clip that will easily accept the cartridge, and then snap back into place.....

Give me your 1917 so I can make a several year field comparison with them. You can come up and use yours anytime you want. I'll pick it up this summer. Make sure it's clean for me, and in a nice holster. None of this plastic chit.....

I had half moons when I had a 1917. They work fine but are still a nuisance compared to loose rounds and speed loaders for practice use. I ended up shooting the 1917 with no clips for practice sometimes. They fired fine, and came out with a fingernail in the extractor groove. They get a bit sticky after they get dirty, but I don't recall not being able to get them out that way.

Full moons are fast, but are best loaded at home before use, and using the tool. If you have enough of them it isn't a big deal. My dad had a couple 38 Smiths set up to use moons. I generally prefer speed loaders to moons.

The auto rim idea isn't so bad. I didn't feel like messing with a different type shell when I had 1917's, so just shot the autos without clips for plinking. It got old after a while though. Did I mention I don't own a revolver in 45 auto?

I had a nice 4" 29, and a 4" 24, I was pretty well covered in the handy, large caliber DA's. It was just what was handier, and I already was firmly entrenched in both. Like the 45 guns, all of them shot pretty well. Auto rim shells would make it much simpler.

My old 29. I've had it a long time.

Mighty nice Blaine,... I know you're gonna love that shooter! Congratulations.

Had a S&W model 25 with the 6" inch barrel. Wood case and all. Had the barrel cut to 4". Nice packing gun. Don't ask why I traded it off some 20 years ago. Couldn't tell you now why, or what for I ever made a a trade like that.

Used half moon clips with the 25 and, having cut my handgun teeth on a Colt New Service 1917 bought in 1959 or 60 using half moons, found them not so big a deal to charge and/or remove spent brass. 'Course they weren't offering any "full" moons in those by-gone days, so really can't offer a comparison.

The only time I used auto rim in my 25 was when I shot silhouette.
I never did not take down a ram I hit, now the ones I missed is not the guns fault: but mine.
