Should A Sheridan Air Rifle Lose Air?
Ever? I gave mine a few pumps, and in a week, it was No-Go...is this natural? How long should it hold air?

Until it doesn't............................It sounds like the seals either need rejuvenation (oil, if leather) or replacement (if synthetic).BlaineG wrote:

Is Sheridan still in business ?
If so, then maybe they have a service dept.

I know there are independents that still service them.
A week is probably too long big guy.

Try Mac 1 airguns. He builds the Steroid Streaks. and sells seals and other parts.
RJohns94 had one of his rifles.

Some air rifles seal with the stored air like most of PCP guns. The Sheridan should loose air when you pull the trigger when the safety is off.
I think it's time to get seals done, or better yet, send it out for a power upgrade. I could recommend Mac-1 also!

Blaine, take a look at Mac1 airguns:
http://www.mac1airgunshop.com/steroid-parts-s/1838.htm
If you'd like to really trick it out and not just reseal it, I'd suggest you send it to Timmy Mac. Give him a call and see what he's charging for the full steroid treatment.
And no, they should not lose air. They should always be stored with a pump or two in them. Also they need to be occasionally lubed with appropriate lube such as Mac1's "Secret Sauce" to keep the seals working right. Anyway, if it's an older Sheridan it's definitely worth rebuilding!

There's his owner's manual on proper use of the Sheridan.

Re: Should A Sheridan Air Rifle Lose Air?
Blaine, how old is this rifle? The Racine variety are especially sought after. The later versions not so much and recent manufacture - well, Timmy Mac quit carrying them because they were hopeless in terms of quality (lack thereof).

Re: Should A Sheridan Air Rifle Lose Air?
Mine lasted only about 40 years. My podna who is into air guns changed the seals and it works good again I shoot it when the grand kids come over. Mom and Dad bought it for me in '69 or '70. Wonderful gun. Little maintenance. It is now close to 45 years old. Not my constant companion any more but good memories of yesteryear.

Got a older Blue Streak.
With age its normal to leak.
Seals become compromised and leak.

http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Hatsan_Mo ... Rifle/2790
Can be had in .177/ .22/ .25
http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/Leapers_U ... Rings/4640
http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/Leapers_A ... vetail/636
They will mount scope/sight-in/send you 10 shot target pretty darn cheap.
That scope, I would put it on a .308 Win and it would work just dandy.
They are that good.

That's well worth rebuilding - or sending off to Mac1 for their turbo charging.BlaineG wrote:I got it used, off of someone here, many moons ago. I've wanted one of those since I first saw one, had NO idea what it was at the time, it just looked cool and the owner made it sound glorious. 5mm/20 cal best compromise between the flat trajectory of the .177 and the punch of the .22.
