Stupidity is not a Tragedy...
SO, I'm printing tomorrow's newspapers... and a headline catches my eye:
"Cliffs claim another victim - second in 5 weeks"
Err... say that again?
Cliffs kill people like Spoons (or guns) kill people.
But, this one is a bit better:
"Cliff Jumper Dies at... second in 5 weeks"
Right. At least the blame is getting closer.
What I don't get is why the Writers can't simply tell the dang truth:
"Brain-dead Moron dies of Alcohol & Testosterone Poisoning... jumps off 110ft cliff into 10ft of water to impress idiot friends by leaping off where another alcohol & testosterone fueled idiot died just 5 weeks earlier..."
(the 'tard was an absolute Chest-Puffing moron. another of those JBT wanabees who couldn't get a Cop job, so went into Corrections so he could yell "stop resisting". Yes, I knew him...(tangentially/different shift))
Truth is harsh. People need to deal with it.

The only good thing about the Duhh Generation they're self limiting, hopefully before they can breed.
I've never understood how the AZ DPS can announce the location of sobriety checkpoints for holidays on the news and in the paper and still nab 2 or 3 hundred at the checkpoints.

Short attention spans... even when they do watch the news, alcohol tends to make them forget... or they think they can bluff thru it... or they really WANT to get caught.williamranks wrote:The only good thing about the Duhh Generation they're self limiting, hopefully before they can breed.

Some county in MO used to set signs out on I-44 that there was a drug check in 2 miles... about ½ mile before an exit... you wouldn't believe the number of cars that ducked off that exit... into the waiting arms of the county SO...

Now I am NOT a fan of the 'Holy War on Drugs', but I have to admit - that is a great tactic to reduce the number of 'innocents' they have to weed through to find a 'guilty' party.Griff wrote:Some county in MO used to set signs out on I-44 that there was a drug check in 2 miles... about ½ mile before an exit... you wouldn't believe the number of cars that ducked off that exit... into the waiting arms of the county SO...

Re: Stupidity is not a Tragedy...
On this evening's news there was a story of yet another sting by the Pollk Co Sheriff's Dept. here is Fla. This is something like the 10th time they have done it. Every time it happens my wife and I look at each other in disbelief. 10 times??? Don't people learn?
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd has a team of detectives that get on the computer and pose as young kids willing to have sex with adults. They catch 30-50 people every time they do it. I mean wouldn't you think that these perverts would have some kind of line of communications where they would say to each other, HEY DON"T GO TO POLK COUNTY TO GET A DATE IT'S A TRAP.
They even caught the number 2 guy in all of Homeland Security once.

Re: Stupidity is not a Tragedy...
Most likely, the kinds of people who gravitate towards "positions of power" would tend to be more likely to ABUSE that power. That seems pretty constant throughout history, so not too shocking the 'HSA' guy gets in trouble.Rusty wrote:They even caught the number 2 guy in all of Homeland Security once.
Plus, the more confident/arrogant/job-secure a person is, the more likely he/she will abuse that power without much fear of getting caught.
And, most 'government jobs' don't require much in the way of actual talent, ability, or intelligence - more likely the hire will be based on demographics, quotas, and insider-friends (you know, the things the evil-capitalists are all accused of that would never survive the free-market, but thrive in the socialist (aka 'crony-capitalist') environment of government.

Re: Stupidity is not a Tragedy...
I dont watch TV -- i dont read the paper , --- im just as susceptible as a 9 beer lush to fall into a DUI checkpoint ---- Why? I have better things to do with my day than read the paper or watch the news. Doing either of those 2 things is a dying art --- not necesarilly a "Duhhh" thingwilliamranks wrote:The only good thing about the Duhh Generation they're self limiting, hopefully before they can breed.

Yep, I believe that was in Franklin County, just west of St. Clair. They were doing that even back when I was patroling neighboring Warren County. I thought that was a great tactic. I-44 is one of the heaviest traveled routes in the country for drug smugglers headed to St. Louis and Chicago from south of the border.Griff wrote:Some county in MO used to set signs out on I-44 that there was a drug check in 2 miles... about ½ mile before an exit... you wouldn't believe the number of cars that ducked off that exit... into the waiting arms of the county SO...

Re: Stupidity is not a Tragedy...
Exit 144 I believe. Memphis PD has some special training they use for "profiling" drug traffickers... i.e. if you have TX plates, you're fair game! I've been thru there many times to visit the folks in east TN... but a 1-ton dually w/farm plates must not qualify!TedH wrote:Yep, I believe that was in Franklin County, just west of St. Clair. Re: Stupidity is not a Tragedy...
I'd have to disagree.
Stupidity is a tragedy.
Think how many perfectly good donor organs get damaged.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Don't know that I'd particularly want donor organs from somebody that dumb.. Something tells me they were probably used pretty hard...

Re: Stupidity is not a Tragedy...
Thanks Buck. As I was scrolling down I was thinking the same thing. Do you suppose the organs might carry the stupid gene over to the recipient?

This is the exit just east of St. Clair, and there is absolutely nothing commercial there so few get off unless they live there. The time my cousin and I got stopped there we were headed to the boat ramp at the mouth of the Bourbuese River in my van pulling a jon boat. The group doing the checkpoint were the HP Drug Task Force. While they were walking the dog around the van TWO unrelated cargo vans pulled in driven by hispanic looking fellows and the dog almost pulled her handler off his feet in her efforts to get to the first one. The patrolman I was talking to rolled his eyes and told us to be on our way, and by the way, good luck fishing.

A friend is a retired Oregon State Trooper who has seen his share of stupidity, and the gory results. Every time we are driving around somewhere and he sees someone on a motorcycle without a helmet, he says "There's another organ donor".
