SightHunter came through surgery just fine!

Post by piller »

SightHunter had a surgery yesterday to have a second cochlear implant. It was done in Southlake, TX, and the surgery went well. She is still on the couch and has not really woken up from the anesthetic, but that is sort of to be expected with the gene for +2 on the 2C19 enzyme of the Cytochrome P450 system that I passed on to her. on July 15th, she has the followup appointment to get the external hardware and start getting it set so that she can hear with it.

She went back to school this morning. She is taking a Summer math class at a Community College near here. She must be feeling good because she was embarrassed about the bandages.

Glad to hear! I am very hard of hearing myself and have discussd the implant with my doctor and said i was not a very good candidate for an implant. My mom had german measles while pregnant with me, i had spinal menigitits when I was one yoa, and had a high enough fever at about age two that they put me in ice to to break the fever. The doctor said I was lucky that i still had eyesight. I am 51 yoa now and have managed to get by this long with the aid of my loving wife. I call her my secretary, She handles all my calls for me. Work does not require good hearing, so no problem there. :D

Excellant, for her !

A friend's (adult) Son had cochlear implanting done, several years ago - and can hear much better than his Dad, who mostly reads lips, or doesn't respond to conversation, anymore.

The Son got it done after I was describing how I had heard a deer approaching from behind me that year, before I saw/shot it.

They both asked me: "You heard a deer walking ? ? "

The Son came to terms with his condition, but Dad hasn't (as yet).

Piller, some how I missed the whole thing about the first implant. I hope things work out well and my prayers are with her.

Our office manager's daughter had her first implant about a year ago, and has adapted well. She's already learned figured out she can plug in her Ipod and tune out the world. They know she will eventually need another, but are waiting until it's needed. It seems the technology is steadily improving. By the way hers is from Advanced Bionics which happens to be in SoCal.

SightHunter's first Cochlear Implant, from 18 years ago, was made by Advanced Bionics.
