Lost my Dog last Friday...

Post by 1894c »

I lost my 14-year old friend and buddy last Friday, her name was Esther Rose, we shortened her name to Essie (female schnauzer). I didn't realize how much my life was intertwined with hers. I knew I spent allot of time with her, but her absence this week has really brought that home. Dogs are great, and I will miss her forever... :(

My condolences. I lost a dog a few months ago, and I know how you feel. We ended up with a new puppy before we thought we were ready, and he has really made a big difference. He is not a replacement, but simply an new chapter in a long book of life. I still miss the old dog. She was the best home defense system I have had. She knew her place without any teaching. Outside the yard while on walks, she was friendly to everyone she met. In the yard was her territory to protect, and she took that job seriously. She showed a lot of love to the entire family, and will never be replaced. I feel lucky to have had that half German Shepherd-half Boxer that my son named Whiskers in our lives. In time, you will be able to handle the loss. Prayers sent for comfort for now.

Sorry to hear about your dog, its never easy to lose a good friend.

I've lost several over the years, I generally get another one pretty quickly. There's a lot of truly good dogs that need a good person, and the happiness a new dog brings helps take some of the sting out of the loss of the old friend. It doesn't take away from your old friend, but starts a new chapter.

Sorry for your loss,been there.

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said " it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.

My heartfelt condolences. I have been there before and know how hard it is. And now again.... I count everyday with my Lab "Daily" a special blessing as she will be passing soon at 7 1/2 from cancer. Reread the words and take in the wisdom of BigSky, pillar, Malamute and Mossyoak. Your Levergunners friends here know what you're going through and are with you in your loss and grief. Please post a pic of your new dog when the time is right to bring a new friend into your life. My own experience is "sooner is better," too.

Nothing tears out your heart like losing a favorite pet. It never gets easier. We have a pet cemetary on our yard and it stays pretty much soaked with the tears that are shed after each burial for the last 40 yeras.

It took me many years but now I understand why people leave their estates to their furry friends or other organizations that do for pets.

It will take awhile, and you will mend, but you will never be 100%. Having a pet is worth the pain when we do lose them. They do so much and ask for so little............unlike people.---------6

I've found most of my dogs at rescues. A couple were thought to be unadoptable, but I persisted and they let me take them. All have been good to great dogs. They really seem to appreciate a good person and good home. When sending pics and updates to the rescue people, they've told me a couple times they wish I could take more (or all) of their dogs.

Sorry for your loss......but......it's still just a dog. I feel sorry for those of you that prefer dogs to people. It says something about you or maybe where you live. Out here in ranch country good friends and neighbors are highly regarded.
Behind every sucessful rancher is a wife with a job in town.
