History's ALONE ....

Post by bigbore442001 »

I have been watching the History Channel's ALONE series. It is about ten people who were dropped off on the NW coast of Vancouver Island with the clothes on their backs and ten survival items. They are isolated by several miles from each other and have to more or less outlast each one by surviving alone.

On another site I found out from one of the contestants they were not allowed any firearms.

Anyways.

If you were in a similar situation, what ten items and what one firearm would you take on such an experiment?

I would be tempted to take a 22 mag lever action rifle for this event ( if I had any say in the rules) as well as a good tarp, axe, saw, fire starter, knife, fishing kit, 550 paracord, sharpening stone and cooking pot.

Just curious to see what you would want to take.

I stand by my post there, though Grizz's advice on a broad-spear-head/belt knife vs a smatchet or E-Tool is a solid alternative...

I hope they have armed backup.....LOTS of bears on Vancouver Island. After a few days of cooking fish and birds, they will do doubt see plenty of them  They could rename the show Bearly Alone.

they were given a list of 40 things, they could only chose 10 .. but they could bring
there own items ( of the ten they selected ) no guns, no back up, you can go the
the history channel and see their lists. the 40 item list hasn't been released yet..

4 have tapped out in the first 5 ( it think ) days ..

the island has 200 + wolves, 1000 mountain lions, and a gazillion bears (black not griz)

lions, wolves, and bears OH MY !!!!!!! :-)

Missed the last show but I think I would have strung up a hammock to get off the ground. I know bears and cats can climb but the dogs can't. I'd make a bear at least work a little to eat me. I grew up in the woods and there can be some down right scary sounds. When I was a kid I'd go out with my cousin and spend night running dogs and a panther will almost make you pee in your pants. City boys won't make it, a country boy might if he keeps his fear in check. Told the wife 40 years ago I'd Love to do that but now, I'll just watch.

On Naked & Afraid, they can bring only one thing. Girl brought a magnifying glass for dry-frying bugs & such Said any wuss can survive 21 days with a knife & said she liked the challenges of solar cooking .

A knife and materials to make a bowstring from, would be top 2 on my list. May not get a gun, but I would make a bow and arrows day one.

Sat phone and credit card. The only reason those folks are there is the $500,000. on the table. Any sane person would take the things that will end the predicament as soon as possible.

Remember, it's still a game. No one's live is on the line.

And, of course, there is potable water there.

I wonder how many "contestants" would know how to make a solar still and recycle their own urine if dropped into the Mojave...

Spoiler Alert: The show is/was 100% scripted and edited for entertainment and sponsor approval, complete with verbal product placements.
Trust me, they weren't after survivalists and outdoors-people in their market demographics!

I like to see the true reality show where the last one alone gets eaten.
