It's been quite some time I've been wanting to get a semi-auto pistol and as of late it was kicked into overdrive since Maine will become the 8th state (by 10/15/2015) to allow "Constitutional Concealed Carry" without a permit. Over the years I've shot a few but the one that I keep coming back to what the Sig, it just felt nice in my hand. Well I picked one up yesterday, a barely used Sig Sauer P226 Elite in 357 Sig for a really good price. Depending how busy work is this week I would like to skip out to the range and try it out.

I know that anybody (ME residents & non-residents) could open carry in Maine, but could you tell us if the new Maine Constitutional Concealed Carry applies only to Maine residents, or are non-Maine residents (aka: Non-Resident Hunters & Fishermen) now also covered for concealed carry ?

Re: My first semi-auto pistol & CCW
I was digging through the states website and this is what I got for a summary:
Mainehunter
Concealed carry without a permit is limited to people who are 21 or older,
with the following exception: If a person is 18 years of age or older, and is
on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States or the National
Guard, or has been honorably discharged from the Armed Forces or the
National Guard, and is not otherwise prohibited from carrying a firearm, the
person may carry a concealed handgun. A person who is 18-20 years old
and without the referenced military qualifications must have a permit to
carry concealed. The law applies to both residents of Maine and nonresidents.

The 226 isn't a small gun to hide, and the .357 Sig has some significant muzzle snap and cost to practice.
That said, it's a start. Get a GOOD gunbelt and a GOOD (quality) holster. Raven Concealment is my go-to for daily carry.

Re: My first semi-auto pistol & CCW
I found the recoil the same compared to the 40 S&W, less than 45 ACP but I could shoot a tighter group with the 357 Sig. One thing for sure it's definitely louder than any of them. I've checked ammo prices in my area and what I'm seeing they are a tad higher between the 9mm and 40 S&W. I do have a few guys at the range that reload for the 357 Sig so I'll pick their brain when the time comes. If it becomes an issue I can always pick up 9mm or 40 S&W barrel for it. One thing I would like to change on it is the trigger pull so I'm looking around to pick up an SRT kit for it. Your right about the size it's beefier but I have big hands and I can't get comfortable with any sub-compact auto's that out in the market.MrMurphy wrote:The 226 isn't a small gun to hide, and the .357 Sig has some significant muzzle snap and cost to practice.

That's about as dandy a regulation as it could be....Under 21 in WA, a handgun is strictly verboten...Mainehunter wrote:I was digging through the states website and this is what I got for a summary:
