The market is saturated in this neck of the woods.....Joe Blow is going to buy his fishhooks and stuff at WallyWorld. There are too many stores (Bass Pro, and Cabelas) in the area.

I like Cabelas better but neither are close enough for a casual visit.
I feel bad for the several thousand folks who will be greeting the new year without a job.

Now, if they would just close all the Cabela's in TX, I could go back to ordering my stuff online and avoiding sales tax... :x :x 'Sides, stuff in their stores is too high priced... quit carrying silk longjohns (along with everyone else), so what use are they? REI has better outdoor gear, even if it isn't all in some camo something or other!! :P :P

You'd thing the metro L.A. area could support one of their stores, yet we have none. Oh wait, supposedly until this year we couldn't support an NFL team. No, that's not right, we just would pay the NFL enough money and build them a stadium for free.

I'm with ya Griff. I've often felt left out because we don't have a Cabelas anywhere here in Fla. but I remind myself I don't pay sales tax on the things I order. I have a Cabelas Visa and they treat me well. I guess it's going to happen though. I'm guessing that the Cabelas employees won't be the only ones that get the shaft.

"Oh wait, supposedly until this year we couldn't support an NFL team. No, that's not right, we just would pay the NFL enough money and build them a stadium for free."

How about we just send the Rams back west? Apparently the indoor stadium we had to build to get them here (and are still paying for) isn't exactly what they now want so we're expected to build another one. Our totally useless state and local leaders prefer to ignore public opinion and kiss their rosy red ones in an effort to get them to stay. My Dad has a favorite saying involving a screen door and a posterior. Hey Rams, do that.

I can survive without Cabela's, but I would miss all the ammo and components I buy with Cabela Bucks from my card.

Uhg. The bps out here has a pretty weak guns and ammo selection compared to Cabelas. I mean neither are my goto retail establishments, but Cabelas is definitely the better of the two.

When the No Ammo/EBR fiasco was going on, Cabela's never raised their prices unless their cost went up. The put strict limits on purchases, and flagged the ones coming in everyday for their two boxes (to resell at the gunshow). If you shopped the sales, and had a Cabela's Visa it was an ok place to shop.

Hmmm....I'm not convinced.

Some media outlet in Billings MT is the /only/ one running this story?

A little google-fu and I got this off of snopes

http://www.snopes.com/2015/11/12/bass-p ... g-cabelas/

For now, I'm just adopting a 'wait and see' attitude.

We now have the largest BPS store in the world here in Memphis (whoop-de doo).

I have always noticed that the fit and finish on their firearms is lacking--almost like they buy the manufactures seconds to sell for retail.
Most of their other equipment has been satisfactory, but reloading supplies are always lacking in quantity and variety.

I used to be a big Gander Mountain fan until Cabelas bought them out and jacked up the GM prices to match the over priced Cabelas gear.

It's a PITA to switch out all those automatic payments that I put through their Visa Card... I hope I can keep it. I've found the Cabela's Visa cust. service to be outstanding.

That's what I've always said. Cabelas Visa is the best. Of course one of the reasons BPS might want to do the buyout is so they can obtain the Cabelas Visa program. That would mean they could kick Bank of America to the curb and they'd be making a lot more money.
I recently bought some stuff at the new BPS near me and got to talking to the clerk. He had just moved here from out west where he worked for Cabelas. He said they made most of their money from the Visa card.

I guess I'm just getting old... I hate change of any kind.
