Prayer requests - a trio (update 1/3/16)

Post by Ysabel Kid »

No prayer-shaming here.

I have a trio of them. Please be patient with me.

My Mom went to the ER Sunday night. Chest pain and inability to catch her breath. They admitted her and fortunately ruled out heart issues, but her breathing and now inability to swallow has them running all kinds of tests. The breathing issue is a result of 40 years of smoking; she is on oxygen 100% of the time and has COPD. We'd hoping to get her home tomorrow.

Sunday I also found out my cousin has breast cancer. She just turned 50. It has gone into her lymph nodes. Not good.

Lastly, and I do mean lastly, I have been having problems seeing. I went 50 years without anything, then went directly to bifocals. They lasted a year and over the last 6 months they weren't working well, so I figured my prescription had already changed. Then 2 months ago I starting having big problems with my left eye. I can barely see out of it now. Turns out, at 51, I have cataracts - in both eyes. I'm going to have surgery next month to remove the cataracts and replace the lenses with artificial ones. I know this is basic surgery, but the idea of getting a needle in my eye, then having my eyes cut, just wigs me out.

Anyway, I have personally felt the power of prayer from you all here in the past, and would appreciate you dropping a bit of knee-mail for my family and me if you don't mind.

Thanks!

YK,
My wife and I have both had cataract surgery and love the results! I only wear glasses for driving and for hunting as they sharpen my focus at distances.
There was no pain involved because the eye is numbed with drops first.

Retina surgery is a bit more stressful and recovery a bit more guarded. However, when your retina detaches and you have large floaters in your eye, it motivates to get to the best retina surgeon you can as quickly as possible.

Prayers for your Mom, and Cousin......

Your eyes? I've got the onset of cataracts, and I wish I could have them done tomorrow. With this new procedure, you'll have perfect eyesight, both near, and far after they are done.

Done. You'll do fine.

As for your cousin, there are some oncologists doing integrative care of advanced breast cancer; they do all the high-tech receptor/chemo stuff, but also emphasize nutrition, supplements, meditation, and other things that focus the immune system into a tough fighting force.

You'll do fine with the eye surgery. My boss just had both eyes done, and he was back to work the next day.

As one leg of my medical quinella (heart attack, thyroid cancer, diabetes, etc), I had new/ implant lenses done for both eyes (one at a time, 2 weeks apart) about 3-1/2 years ago, and can tell you that there was zero pain involved, and although conscious during the operation/procedure, nothing can be seen because the work is so close to the eye that it's out of focus.

It wasn't until the 2nd eye was done, that I was amazed at just how "white", "yellow", & "blue" (etc) those colors (among others) became.

(What I thought was an off-white/light-cream colored nearby home, turned out to be white)

The icing on the cake was that. after the procedures were finished, I no longer need glasses, except for very small and/or dimly-lit print.

Thanks fellas.

I'm not worried about any pain. Pain I can handle. Anything touching my eyes I've never been able to handle. They just better strap me in!

Praying for your Mother and cousin. I know, firsthand, God directs physicians and uses them for our good. Don't be concerned about cataracts. Today it's easier than having your tonsils out! But, praying for peace anyway...

"Spreading into Lymph nodes" ain't all that bad, I had throat cancer and had to have 50 lymph node removed (I didn't know I had that many). My ENT feller said that's what they are for, absorbing bad stuff. (but any physicians here will prolly correct me :D )

Update:

My Mom has been home from the hospital for a couple weeks and is on the mend. No heart issues, she's eating again, and enjoyed the holidays. She's never going to run a marathon, but she's back to where she was before going into the emergency room earlier in December.

My cousin has started treatment for her cancer. We are hopeful. Continued prayers are appreciated.

During the holidays another of my cousins had to have hernia surgery, which went well. My brother also did a stint in the emergency room for his back, which is almost as bad as mine.

I was actually on vacation the last 2 weeks plus. Didn't seem like it though. I spent all of it working on legally dissolving a family LLC and on Y2K's Eagle Ceremony which is next Saturday. I hate to say it, but between all of this and the holidays I wasn't able to make it here often.

So, Happy New Year all. Happy belated birthday to all those I missed.

My first cataract surgery is tomorrow. I know this is a "common " surgery, but it still has me worried. I'd rather have back surgery again then have my eye cut open.

Anyway, I'll let you all know how it went later this week - hopefully!

Thanks guys. The surgery went well. All I remember is them strapping me down, and saying "we're giving you something to help you relax". Boy did they. Next thing I know, they are saying "we're taking you to post-op". I'm at home resting with a big clear eye shield on. If this continues to go well I'll have my right eye done Friday. Thanks for the prayers - they worked! :D
