Went To Buy Powder...Bought Gun!

Post by rbertalotto »

Went to the local gun shop this morning to pick up some powder.....Quick look in the gun case....1873 Colt Bisley (ASM) in 38-40!

Big deal...a repro of an 1873 SAA by the Italian firm Armi San Marco....

But...This is Massachusetts. A revolver like this is near impossible to get in this state. If it wasn't here before 1998, it can't be brought in and sold here. In fact, the only SAA revolvers that you can buy new here are Ruger Vaqueros...And just a few models. Unless they were here before 1998 and are grandfathered. I hate it here!

So..38-40, my favorite cartridge...Bisley with a great feeling grip and that low hammer....a real dog gone firing pin!...Perfect new condition...And at a price that was well below what I thought he should be asking..... SOLD!

I can't believe they allow such dangerous items to be re-sold there, just because they happened to be there 18 years ago...I'm betting you'll be out holding up liquor stores with it by next weekend. :|

Cool gun though - about the ideal SAA in my opinion. Glad you were able to find one, especially there.

Just don't turn into a criminal, please. :D

.

That Bisley is plain beautiful, Roy - a far cry from what Ruger calls a Bisley. (and, yes - I've owned 2 Ruger Bisleys)

I like that Bisley, love that color casing... I might have to try one those some day. Massachusetts, (mercy, it took me four tries to spell it), :?: it sounds like a place Hitlery would like to preside over. Maybe we could all take up a collection and move you out of there. :D

Great looking revolver & it sounds like a great deal for you!
Have a Uberti in 38-40 I happen to like it a lot better than my Colt in 44-40

I have wanted one for a long time! Happy you gave it a good home. I saw one at a gun show (Not has clean though) in Washington state a few years back but thought I would of become a felon bringing it back to CT. Sad to say with our Governor we are right behind the stupidity of Mass.

That is a dandy! What is there not to like about that.

We don't have those laws in Wisconson. But then we have to deal with people standing line around the block to get into the ER for Colt single action gun wounds.

Some of the Colt replicas are good guns.
That one looks nice. I'm probably not the only one who'd like a range report when you get it to the range?
The .38WCF is a very interesting cartridge too.
Congratulations.

I love the look, feel, of the Bisley models. But they all force my natural hold to point downhill for me. I feel like I have to bend my elbow to make them point level at the target. I had a very nice Uberti SAA Bisley, and traded it to a friend who had a regular SAA .32-20. We both ended up with the gun we liked.

Coming back to look again.
There's no turn line on the cylinder great. Never lower the hammer on a Colt or replica from half cock. That's what puts the turn line on the cylinder. It causes the locking bolt to drop between the locking notches & when the cylinder is turned to lock it it'll scratch the cylinder.
Good shooting that's a pretty gun.
