Love the '95! Here's the three I have right now. I had a second Russian Musket and a couple 30-06's but sold them a while ago.

My Grandfather's 35 WCF
My first one, a .30-06 SRC and a Russian Musket. Been chasing a .303 SRC for as long as I can remember.

Going to have to take some better pictures.

Please send me your 40-72 flatside. Now! :D Very nice....all of them.

I've been a collector/shooter for over 40 years and it took till about 20 years ago before I got interested in '95's. Never had one that was not a great shooter. Currently I have a pair of 30-40's, a pair of '06's...one of those look like it was made yesterday, something else I can't remember offhand...and a takedown 35 with the seldom seen hard rubber butt plate. Gonna move that one as, well, I'm gettin old and it's almost time to cash in on seldom used stuff.-----6

My love affair comes with 1886 Winchesters and pre-war single action Colts.

Here's an old pic of 3 of them.

I took this 35 for a walk in the Rockies some years back looking for elk.

I never used to like the 95 or the 99 for that matter. They do have a way of growing on you though. I just haven't been in the right place at the right time lately to fix that and still own neither.

OS,
When I first acquired my .405, you told me to campaign it and since then, it has taken game from pronghorn to Cape buffalo and water buffalo.
I like the cartridge so well that I now have a double rifle in .405; it has only taken one boar, but as soon as my right eye recovers from it's latest operation, I plan to take some exotics with it.

Both are very accurate.

I have a new stock for the 35 Win , just haven't gotten around to fitting it. But it is going deer hunting this year.

I have a nice JapChester 1895 in 405. "If" I keep it, she will need to have that hard buttplate taken off, properly shortened, and a good "P" Pad installed. She really beats the heck out of me when I touch it off.
Don't really care for the sights, either. Probably needs a tanger.

Blaine,
Get a set of dies and handload 300 gr. cast bullets to about 1500 fps which are available from buffalo arms. This load has the kick of a 30-30. You can shoot all day for $15 and don't need a recoil pad.

While I don't have a 405, I do have a 35 which is nothing more than the 405 necked to 35 caliber. This cartridge shoots a 250 gr. bullet the same speed the 405 shoots a 300 gr. at. I load 250 gr. cast at around 1500

I seldom load any of my guns up to their potential, unless it's for hunting.---6

BlaineG,
With the 1895 .405, a good recoil pad goes a long way to making them fun to shoot. They are rather light in weight for heavy loads with 300 or 400 grain bullets. However, that same light weight makes them an ideal stalking rifle; in the field, you will not notice the recoil.
Or, you could get yourself one of these double rifles as they tame the .405 right down so it is a pleasure to shoot, even off a bench rest:

Hey Blaine, I have one of these too and have shot the heck out of it over the last years. Mostly cast bullet loads that really do it all unless you are lucky enough to be able to afford a trip to Africa. Or decide to go shoot a big critter out in the mountains that is as dangerous to you as you are to it.
I fixed the sight issue by putting a tang sight on. Works just fine. One of the black powder cartridge rifle shoots I go to has a side match for lever guns that allows any lever action rifle with cast loads. The 95 is my go to gun for this one shooting form 50 out to 200 yards on steel targets. Always get kidded about being sure I brought enough gun.

That's really, really spiffy (spiffy? Dang, I'm old)......

I've only ever shot a couple boxes of Hornadys......I have an older .444, so I may pass this one along if someone wants it more than I do.
