Kirk Douglas's 100th Birthday Today

Post by saw whet owl »

A talented actor, in my opinion. I enjoyed much of his work.

I loved the scene in "In Harm's Way" where Douglas' character slaps Commander Neil Owynne (Patrick O'Neil) and says, "Be on the next plane outta here, and take this punk with you.", referring to the Brandon De Wilde character.

I don't think I ever saw a movie he was in that I didn't enjoy.

As far as I know he was a nice guy off-screen, as well, but I never had any use for his son Michael (probably because Michael is an arrogant, anti-gun idiot... ).

Kirk said in an interview once that he was proudest of "Lonely Are The Brave". It's my favorite too. Shoots down and Air Force helicopter with a take-down 92. Very cool. His horse Whiskey is in most of the scenes too.

I understand hie circus background made him athletic enough to do most of his own stunts. He could mount a horse like nobody else in the movies. Great talent, great actor!
