Looks like Colt is getting back into the snake business
A Cobra now and who knows maybe a sub $1500 Python later.

I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Well that would be nice. I had a Python years ago, it had been parted together from a couple different pistols and picked it up cheap. Worked well but wasn't very accurate. Always wanted a good one. Sure would be nice to see some new ones.

It looks like the new Cobra is a +P-rated D-frame, like the Detective Special, and not the larger Mark III-type frame.
I just wish the muzzle didn't look so "chopped off".

Especially nice to see the SAA back in the lineup! I've got 3 years to save up for the wife's anniversary present!!! A pair of 38Spl 4-¾", but they'll be thru the custom shop anyway...

Re: Looks like Colt is getting back into the snake business
Friend of mine recently had a whole bunch of Colts for sale. Most were NIB, from an estate. They had to cut open the vault to empty it. Everything under the sun was in that vault!
Always wanted to fit a python barrel to a S&W frame, better barrel on a frame that isn't finicky about timing!

I saw a bunch of Colt snakes go well over book at a Sheriffs auction in 06. Saw them years later for sale in LGS for a lot less.

I'm surprised Colt hasn't taken advantage of the Python's fame in The Walking Dead. You'd think they would take a page from S&W's book. Look what Dirty Harry did for the Model 29, Death Wish did for the Wildey and Terminator did for 1887 lever action shotguns.
But don't ever expect it to be reasonably priced. Colt priced themselves out of the revolver market, and I doubt anyone there is one bit brighter today.

Yes!!!! Excellent job Colt!!! We complained when revolvers were not in the line up so I certainly hope to read positive things here now that Colt listened. Is one in my future???.....maybe so...maybe so.... Time to check the funds...

I won't hold my breath waiting for one to see the light of day. Just do not be the first kid on your block to get one. Let some other schmuck be colt's beta tester.
Look how they messed up the 380 mustang. it didn't sell 1million copy the first year so they canx it. Sold the rights to SIG and they're making book on it.
Lost the 1911 market, can't figure out how to do a proper beaver tail or bevel a mag well. Do the slides still beat up the brass? Plastic mainspring housing, and plastic recoil spring cap - and raise prices for plastic parts!
I don't know why people clamor for the python's return. I remember the stainless python colt re-introduced a few years back. It was a $1400 ABORTION. The hammer was strapped down so I couldn't try the action.
For me, I'd buy a 7shot L-frame, run it down to Teddy Jacobsen's in San Antone, for a slickin' up with a reliability primary. I'd end up with a magnum that will still be in time after a couple of thousand heavy magnum loads. I can educate my trigger finger to run a K frame action real easy. And I'll still have $400 left in my pocket - maybe more. - Brian

There's no plastic on the 1911 I just bought and it's the most accurate .45acp I've owned straight out fo the box or custom. Every company goes through changes. I'm just happy to see that they are still here and trying to make up for some poor decisions.

The Cobra I took out of my pocket last night has an aluminum frame so it weighs much less than that new one. At the Wanamacher last show Cobras were $1000 for pristine ones.

Re: Looks like Colt is getting back into the snake business
I think it was unfortunate that Colt used the Cobra name, it's confusing a lotta people.
It's not a bring-back of the original Cobra, not the same frame or action, and it DOES NOT MEAN THERE'S ANY POSSIBILITY OF A PYTHON RE-BIRTH.
The Python is dead.
A Python II would be counterproductive & not well-received.

^^^ The name Cobra sounds "cool" and that's what sells to the younger generation. No matter what, I wish Colt all the best of luck for all their products. We can't afford to have another iconic gunmaker go under in this country.
