Lots of experts here so someone should come across this thread soon with an answer.

Somewhere after the 70s Winchester did away with the stamped carrier and went to a cast one. Much better. These will fit and work in the earlier 94s without any modification that I know of.
I have had several Win 94s with the stamped carrier but they never gave me any trouble so I didn't replace them.
Griff builds his own so he'd know if there are any other parts that need replaced at the same time as the carrier.
One thing I would suggest is to replace the carrier spring at thesame time as the carrier.

.

The pre-64 Model 94 carriers cannot be replaced with any post-64 carriers - of which there were two different ones, interchangeable with each other.

From 1964 to late 1970, Winchester installed the stamped/sheet-metal carriers.

Very late in 1970, starting with the 1971 NRA Centennial Models, Winchester changed the carrier to one that resembles the pre-64 carrier, but is a casting (look for the mold mark/line running front to rear down the middle of the top/bottom of the carrier).
