Garand gernade launcher blanks ( shooting )

Post by Pitchy »

I ordered a dummy grenade launcher for my Garand from gun parts and wondering if this would be the proper blanks to use with it.
What i`ve read is that ya want a low power blank for it.

I think that those are standard blanks; the grenade launcher was used with the more powerful "Cartridge, Rifle Grenade, Caliber 30, M3"

There was also an M7 Auxiliary Grenade Cartridge booster charge that could be inserted into the grenade launcher to increase its range by an extra 100 to 150 yards. They were made from cut-down .45 Colt cartridges, with a small hole in the base. The propellant was ignited when the M3 cartridge was fired

Thanks Bruce but what i`ve read for just launching the gernade for fun to use a lighter load that only propels it about 100 yards, it looks like those i posted a link too would be lighter.

Not much knowledge about blanks, i`ll email the seller and ask them i would think they would be lower pressure than the standard grenade launcher ones.
Or maybe i won`t shoot it at all just have it for looks. :)

HAve you done a search on Cast Boolits forumns? Few guys on the former did some work with blanks. Tho you have to read thru alot of the "old women and trolls" doom and gloom comments to find the info.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

I have a modified grenade launcher for my 30 carbine that snaps around the front sight, I think it was made/modified in Finland back in the late '50's. Bought it at a gun show in San Jose, Ka in the mid '90s. I use it as a flash hider. Kinda heavy though. It's about 6" long with 6 grooves on the forward part with a spring in the forward groove, it's a push on and twist type device. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Just did a search and found out it's a MODIFIED blank firing device with a Garand type forward grenade launcher attached to the front of it! Made in Netherlands.

I ordered 30 blanks today should have everything needed to shoot, have the poppet valve gas plug already.
Won`t be shooting it until the snow melts or i`ll never find the anti-tank rocket. :)

Got the inert dummy practice grenades today, made the wood one and will shoot it first because i don`t want to mess up the nice blue one. :)

The dummy practice one weighs 1 1/2 pounds Grizz, i would think a actual one would weigh the same so they could practice different ranges.

Yepper John that would do it.
