Best female singer of all time Patsy Cline. Best male Marty Robins. That puts me squarely in the true country/ western camp.

What they call country today isn’t. More like stuff. A mix of country and rap. And I can’t remember the last time anyone recorded a western ballad.

The older I get, the more I like Bluegrass and Americana Music. Americana is a blend of folk, gospel, blues, country, jazz, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, bluegrass.
I love the old classics, but some of the new young bands are pretty good. I don't know why this music is not played on the radio.

Don't care much for noise of any kind without poetry or a story.
For a story it is hard to beat Marty Robbins. For poignant poetry Towens Van Zandt.
For real modern cowboy tunes Corb Lund.

A couple from from early in Chris Stapelton's career when he was with The Steel Drivers...

https://youtu.be/8Q3Bo_Kz8qQ The SteelDrivers - Blue Side Of The Mountain

https://youtu.be/pRsjl0Duim0?list=RD8Q3Bo_Kz8qQ The SteelDrivers - Ghosts Of Mississippi

Here's one with poetry and story....

https://youtu.be/8WJSwqngedY The Steeldrivers - Sticks That Made Thunder

Sticks That Made Thunder
My roots are deeper than the bones, the others
My colors that change with the sun
My branches, we're higher
Than anything on the hillside
On the day that I watched them all come
Some wear the color of the sky in the winter
Some, we're as blue as the night
They came like a storm with the light of the morn
And they fell through the whole day and night
Colors flew high and they danced in the sky
As I watched them come over the hill
Then to my wonder, sticks that made thunder
Such a great number lay still
When the light came again
There was death on the wind
As the buzzards made way for the worms
And the little white trees that don't bend in the breeze
For the ones that will never return
Colors flew high and they danced in the sky
As I watched them come over the hill
Then to my wonder, sticks that made thunder
Such a great number lay still
Those that have fallen, come when I call them
And answer the best that they can
But all they can see is what they used to be
And that's all that they understand
Colors flew high and they danced in the sky
As I watched them come over the hill
Then to my wonder, sticks that made thunder
Such a great number lay still
Colors flew high and they danced in the sky
As I watched them come over the hill
Then to my wonder, sticks that made thunder
Such a great number lay still

Growed up in 70's, graduated in 77. Have to love Rock and did. Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, ELO, and many more, but 8tracks was the thing, and in those I listened mostly to Marshal Tucker Band, Eagles, Gordon Lightfoot, and whatloved Heart! Always liked Jackson Browne, and Christine McVee of Fleetwood Mac. But I've always loved listening to John Andersen, Alan Jackson, and most of all Merle Haggard, and listened to Merle even when I was young. If I had tonail down one for voice, entertainment, and personality, Merle Haggard #1 hands down. I had a good buddy-coworker, who before he started mining, worked long time at Dollywood. Was like a maintenance-janitor-late night cleanup. He said Merle was there over a week once, and after closing time, Merle had hit sit and sip with him about every night. Said what I already always figured, that Merle was the real deal, fine person! I don't doubt it.
In past 15 years all I've listened to is mostly Hillsong, and especially love Merriam Webster, she sings like an angel.

Made Me Glad ( you are my shield)! Love this one by her, my favorite for a long time, because Jesus has!

Very first concert I attended, Deep Purple was the front band for Cream... :D :D Similarly, my first concert I went to for Willie Nelson had the Judds! It was on the night of the CMA in Los Angeles, concert was at Universal Studios... Willie went until 2am and every (seemingly) country star at the awards stopped by and joined him on stage for at least a song or two... best value for a concert ticket I ever bought!

If I could put up the link I would, don't know how. But do yourself some real good? Go to this song as soon as you get time, sing along, yes shout to our Lord & Saviour, or at least just speak the words to yourself, you 🙏 will gain, be glad you did! More than we can know or comprehend!

I like most kinds of music to some degree but is comes in phases. I recently found out about a New Orleans jazz player, Doreen Ketchen. Look her up on Youtube. Her husband plays the Sousaphone and her daughter plays the drums on her street band. Doreen is a classically trained clarinet player That has even played with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. She is a trip.
