Expansion test

Post by wvfarrier »

I decided to play around with some 300 blackout loads.

200 grain Makers Expanding Subs
10 grains of H110
2.20" OAL
Winchester Small Rifle Primers
Averaging 1057fps (10ft from muzzle)

Henry Long Ranger-300 Blackout
Rem 700 Tac 16"

100 yards since that is as far as I would use them.

Test medium was a 1# bologna pack covered by a 10oz leather wrap. Backed it with a piece of 1/2" particle board and then several 1 gallon milk jugs.

Round penetrated to the 4th jug, damage to the first 2 jugs was substantial. The last 2 just had normal penetration holes.

I got expansion from 9 grains and up but the accuracy was best between 9.6 and 10.2 for both rifles. 100% weight retention and the petals are RAZOR sharp.

Wicked!!!!

I personally love this cartridge and find it to be quite useful.

I need to work out some loads for an 8 inch bolt gun.

300 blackout seems to be plenty useful. I have watched some videos on youtube where it was compared to other calibers. I have some larger and some more powerful things. Lots of power and noise is not always necessary.

I have used the supers in 300blk with great results and the 176 grain controlled fracturing subsonics
