Anyone have 2400 load data for the 30-30 150-170 grain.
Alliants page is under construction and I do not have any load data, out of 7 books, for 2400 in the 30-30 with cast bullets. I just ordered a Ranch Dog mold. Should come out of the mold at 175 with WW's. I found Paco's load of 10 grains for a 150gr at 1000 fps, but I want a little more. Not sure of the top end for this powder/cartridge.

Fantastic, thank you. I don't know if my line of reasoning was correct but I thought I could go near these loads after comparing case capacity for a 44 mag and 30-30. Seems like pressure would still be well under 40000cup.

Anyone have any experience with 2400 loads in the 30-30 they wish to share...sizing etc...

15 grs of 2400 with 150's , either jacketed or cast has always worked pretty well for me.
Tried some of the same with a modified Ideal mold that comes out at 180 grs, but 5744 has been working better in my rifles.

I have loaded 20 grains of 2400 in both of those bullet weights. Loaded up several hundred rounds total. Worked okay. Never ran them over the screens but seemed safe at the time. This was over 20 years back. I picked the data out of Phil Sharps old book, "Complete guide to Handloading." I wasn't able to find any data newer than that I imagine it might be a bit much with the new powders. These were all jacketed bullets never tried that load with cast bullets.

Using 20 grs. of #2400 is WAY too much in a .30-30 using current Alliant product!
Today's Alliant #2400 is not the same as as the former Hercules powder. It is much faster.
Pending Alliant's completing updating of their web site please do not exceed 16 grs. with a 150-gr. JSP and 15 grs. with a 170-gr. JSP.

While 20 grs is likely a pretty stiff load.
I do take issue with the stuff about 2400 being different. Alliant has denied that many times in the recent past. Shooting tests with 2400 of long ago, and of fresh off the shelves show little to no difference .
IF THEY DID CHANGE 2400 THAT MUCH WHY THEN DIDN'T THEY CALL IT 2500?

Loaded up 20 of these with a Lee 150 grain FPGC. I fished the North Fork of the Clearwater (Idaho) this week and in between rain and fishing I got a chance to shoot them. I plinked and they were accurate. WW bullets were lubed twice with Liquid Alox. No leading from my Marlin 336. I did have a couple of primers back out of their pockets substantially. This says low pressure, or a loose pocket to me. Probably the later but I will have to test more. Penetration tests in well dried Tamarack in the round were suprising at over a foot. Recovered bullets had rounded noses. When I got home yesterday, my Ranch Dog mould was in. I like that load , but have since went to 18.5 grs of 5744 .
Lyman says that 15 grs of 2400 behind the 311291 (170 gr gc) gives a pressure of 25500 cup, and velocity of 1624 fps .
