I always wanted a model 39
I bought two for my sons when they were 9 and 11 yrs. They just bought me a Henry for my 71st birthday. It's a nice shooter but not so traditional as the Marlin.

Interesting, competitive game. Defense was the name of the game. What was everyone doing standing around when the Ravens defensive lineman picked up the (supposedly) dead ball and ran it in for a TD? Never stop playing until you hear the whistle !

I've got well over 100 topo maps of Arizona. I don't use them much since I retired, but lying flat (in drawers) seems the best way to store them. When you want to pull one out to work with it, you don't have to constantly fight to keep it flat. If you need to take some into the field they can be put...

In most of Arizona deer/elk must just be tagged and can be taken home or to a meat locker directly. A notable exception is the North Kaibab area where all deer MUST be taken through the check station. Where I hunt in Montana I have never been checked by a warden; there are several "roadblock-ty...

Nice Job ! You're lucky you didn't have to haul it a long way by yourself. Not only are the gut piles big, but a mature bull is a load to tote. Your planned future horseback hunt won't make it as easy to get the meat out as it sounds like it was on this hunt.

Blaine, you're right on the mark with the rangefinder comment. It's very difficult to accurately judge range under field conditions (without one) and most hunters can't do it will. That's an argument for flat-shooting (high-velocity) calibers for any kind of distance shooting as it allows for "...

Nice pictures. Kinda wonder if that hide in the second pic might not be a buffalo since the hair looks longer toward the front of the animal (lower part in photo) and it would be huge for a black bear at least. Looks to be a studio shot as the hide seems to be tanned. Can't tell from photo with no l...

Actually, you have more than one variable in the experiment. Surely there is going to be some shot-to-shot variation due to your shooting technique (i.e. aiming) to name just one other. So, you should shoot several shots with each loading and use the average point of impact as your value for each va...
