336 RC Texan in 35 Remington
I picked up a 336 RC in 35 Remington at Cabelas on Friday. Like most purchases I didn't go in looking for it. I saw it in the used gun rack and knew it had to come home with me. It is a 1954 model Texan with the straight stock. It has been shot quite a bit, but in great condition, great patina on th...

Re: New Levergun
You can never have too many Winchesters, especially 94s.. :D I too like this direct and true statement. I am a mere neophyte in the Winchester game. I have 3 right now: Model 1894 30 WCF takedown that was my grandfathers saddle rifle, made in 1911 Canadian Centennial Rifle Model 94 I am doing prett...

New Levergun
I know, no pictures, but I haven't taken any yet. Anyway, I went by Cabelas last night to pick up a special order. Of course I had to pass through the used guns in the Gun Library. There was a Winchester 94 there in great condition for $349. Not a steal, but good to me. Turns out to be a 1975 model....

Re: Anyone shoot a 1911 45 ACP?
FWIW, I have a S & W E series stainless and it is has been an excellent firearm. Trigger was great right out of the box, sights decent. The fit and finish is beautiful. I haven't put nearly enough rounds though it, 1,000 + - at this point, but the only failure to feed was on reloaded ammo. I hav...

Re: Browning BL-22 Micro Midas- Thinking of getting one of these
I'll chime in. I just got a BL 22 a few months ago and I love to shoot it. It is very accurate and a true joy to shoot. The short throw lever is great. The only problem with the short throw lever is that it is so easy to cycle and shoot through a box of ammo before you know it. Good news is that .22...

Fun stuff. However you have to watch where you take it to shoot. There have been some brush fires started around here from folks taking it to the desert and shooting it.

Marlin 1894 in 44 Mag at Cabelas
In case anyone was interested, I stopped by the Boise Cabelas gun library last night and they had a 1894 in 44 magnum complete with a Leupold 3x9 muzzleloader scope for $649. It was a JM proof, newer model with crossbolt safety. Looked to be in good condition. I cycled it a couple times and it felt ...

New Leveraction 22
Lever fever strikes again. I am looking for a .22 lever action rifle. I don't need a new one, just one that looks and shoots good. I have looked at the Browning BL 22, Henry, Winchester 9422 and the New Marlin 39. I like the price and function of the Henry, but the painted receiver doesn't trip my t...

New to Me Marlin 1894 CS
At lunch I stopped off at my local gun store to drop off my Ruger Mark I for a little gun smithing. While visiting I asked the innocent question "do you have any lever action .357s in stock". Right then he reached behind him and pulled out a Marlin 1894CS that just came in on trade. I doub...

Re: Help identify old spurs
Pitchy, Beautiful spurs! Around my house growing up, we would have called them Chihuahua spurs. Popular with the Mexican Vaqueros. If made well, they have a wonderful jingling as you walk. Which as a young man, you wanted the loudest most flashy spurs available. If you are actually using them horseb...

My CZ has extractors, so that's OK. Chambers probably need polishing though.
Thanks,
Don

Re: CASS Stainless Steel Question
Forgot to ask, what do you think about the Marlin and Henry Big Boy? As far as shotguns, I have 2 side by sides now, both in 20 gauge. I could use my CZ as long as there isn't a limitation on a 20 gauge. Otherwise I could probably pick up a servicable Savage or something similar.

Re: CASS Stainless Steel Question
Thanks Griff. I appreciate your experience and knowledge about SASS and lever guns. My comment about cowboys needing a pair of pistols was very much tongue in cheek. Mostly I was making fun of myself justifying buying another firearm. Like I really need a reason other than I want one, its legal and ...

CASS Stainless Steel Question
Like many I am intrigued by trying some Cowboy Action Shooting. I just bought the New Vaquero 357-4 5/8" barell in stainless, which I love shooting BTW. I really like stainless firearms. Anyway, I am looking at a Rossi 92 in 357 to go with my Vaquero, but was wondering if there were any restict...

New Pistol
Went by Cabelas on Saturday and danged if a new pistol didn't jump into my shopping basket. I couldn't throw it back, I was chosen to be it's new owner. Anyway, I picked up a Ruger New Vaquero stainless steel in .357 with the 4 5/8 barrel. It sure feels nice. I was also looking at the Uberti, which ...

Re: Which one do you like in a semiauto pistol
I'll jump in here. I like my S & W 1911 stainless. I like the 1911 model because it is all metal and all American. I like the 45 because it is fun to shoot and in case of self defense it packs a big punch. I chose the S & W because it was the best value for me at the time I was in the market...

Re: Wolves coming to CA
In Idaho we have an extra 1,000 or wolves that we would love to send to California. I agree with Old Savage, the Defenders of Wildlife and other animal groups know exactly what they are doing. They understand that by eliminating/seriously reducing game animals, then there is no need for hunting. I b...

Cowboy Action Shooting
How many of you do the cowboy action shooting? I just started to read about it and it looks like a lot of fun. Besides, what an excuse to buy more guns. None of the guns I have currently fit the rules, so if I understand correctly I would need 2 revolvers, a lever gun and a shotgun. What would be go...

Re: Elk vs 308 WIN
My personal experience is limited, killed a number of elk, but only one moose. From my experience, anecdotally from other hunters and observation of other moose being shot, while they are bigger they don't seem to "soak up" lead like an elk will. I would say that a well built bullet from a...

Re: Elk vs 308 WIN
The 308 with a 180 gr bullet would be a very good combination for elk/moose. On a small framed woman the recoil could be kind of unpleasant depending on recoil pads and/or muzze brake. I know when I use 180 gr bullets in my 30-06 I definitely feel when it goes off and I am 185 lbs and fairly muscula...

Well, the winner was the S & W 1911E in stainless. One of the gunshops in town had them on sale to mark the centennial of the model 1911 and for the price, I couldn't pass it up. Bad part was I went and picked it up at lunch, but had to come back to work so I couldn't shoot it. Now to be patient...

Re: Model 1911 45 acp
I stopped by my favorite gun shop yesterday and looked at their 1911s. I looked at the Remington, Springfield, Desert Eagle and Smith & Wesson. All 4 were nice moderate priced guns. From just looking them over and comparing trigger pull, fit & finish, smoothness of action, I eliminated the R...

Not a lever gun question, but I figure many of you own a model 1911 45 acp. I am getting the hankering for a new pistol and really like the model 1911. Levergun Newbie
I have been wanting a model 94 for a long time and after lots of looking and waffling, I picked up a Canadian Centennial Rifle from the used rack at Cabelas that appeared to never have been shot. I traded a Browning shotgun in on it since I had 2 in the gun safe. Anyway it is a great rifle for what ...
