Re: OT - Hornet vs Fox (Photo)

Kansas Ed, I was using a factory load. I haven't got into reloading yet but its something i'd like to do in the future. The ammo I used was made by Sellier & Bellot, 45 grain soft point bullets. Salvo, Mange is a problem here to, particularly with urban foxes which are sometimes caught up by &qu...

OT - Hornet vs Fox (Photo)

An unlucky fox made the mistake of taking an evening stroll through the front garden. Upon seeing it I quickly got the .22 Hornet out of the cabinet and went outside with GK snr to see if we could get him. Team work payed off as the old man called the vixen back out of the wood and held its attentio...

Re: OT Pot Hunting, Fur, Fin and Feather (pictures)

Duff L Bag - I aim to pinch any of his guns when I can  The first rabbit I ever shot with a rifle was with his 9422m. Rusty - I'll definatly be having the trout for dinner. I don't fish much at all so its a rare treat for me. The only other trout i've had from that river was a Brown trout abou...

OT Pot Hunting, Fur, Fin and Feather (pictures)

I went shooting today on my old stomping ground, a 22 acre patch of land in West Meon, Hampshire. My dad and I used to keep the vermin in check but since we moved away its overun with rabbits, squirrels and such so the landowner was happy for me to thin them out. I took my CZ452 .22lr (I don't have ...

Re: .22 Hornet: Ruger 77/22 vs CZ527?

I have the Full Stock CZ-527 in Hornet. Imo its one of the nicest looking b/a rifles around and it shoots well too. I got a nice scope for it last week for my birthday but the dealer hadn't got any mounts to fit so i'm waiting for the CZ mounts to arrive from the official UK dealer. That should step...

I just payed £1.28 for a litre of diesel, that works out as $9.60 for a US Gallon!!
The average price of petrol here is £1.15 per litre or $8.61 per Gallon.
It seems I spend more time driving to the gas station than anywhere else

Pretty impressive stuff Nath.
I've often wondered whether my 177 air rifle would stop a fox if I came across one whilst out after rabbits, now I know.

Nice looking vixen too, congrats

Thanks for all the advice on loads and possitive comments. I may well look into loading my own ammo soon as factory ammo is pretty expensive and limited. I'm not sure on the current regulations either Nath but I know the rifle is up to the job. The fox was broadside on and had no idea I was there. T...

Smaller deer like Muntjak can be shot with .22 centrefire but again not with a Hornet because a minimum bullet weight of 50 grams has been imposed. 50 GRAMS? That's an awful heavy bullet... methinks you mistyped, I hope. It would be 50 grains, would it not? 50 grains would work out to about 3.5 gra...

Same here, I use a Webley xocet. Cheap but effective.

Well done on the crow.

Air guns have very little of those dreaded ft-lbs, they rely heavily on being placed just in the right spot just like our bows (and look what they can do) however unlike our bows them pellets have very little mass and hence do not want to penertrate. Take a look at the surface area of a 22 pell nos...

Thanks for the welcome! It's a lovely rifle and I was pleased to get it. My dad had to get rid of it before he could get the 9422M because of our dumb regulations. Homefront, judging from my experience so far the Hornet is a pretty good round, I hope to put it to the test some more this spring. deer...

OT .22 Hornet Fox

Hi all, I've enjoyed browsing the site for some time and have finally decided to join. I especially enjoy reading all your hunting stories so I thought i'd add one of my own. I aquired a CZ 527 .22 Hornet off my ole man the other day so I decided to take it out after a fox. I picked a spot in a patc...
