OT - AR-15 can do it all...
While reading the threads about the M94 being the do it all rifle... I got to thinking about the AR-15. It's kind of the M94 of the 21st Century. It's also chambered in all kinds of calibers and can be had in .22LR up to 50 Beawolf. Very much like the 94 Winchester. In fact, you could have one lower...

Re: The 94 can't do it all - ...
I think the original post about this was to the effect that the 94 is available in small cartridges and up to the 356 Winchester (or was available). The 88, BLR can handle more cartridge but isn't as versitile as the total incarnations of the 94. I think that was the point. I would argue that the Ma...

I have a 45-70 Handi - and its a pip. Hobbie - don't know what you've got against them but they are great rifles. Mine was purchased for black powder hunting in Mississippi where they are legal during muzzle loader season. I would go for the 30-30 since you don't have one and you mentioned hog hunti...

For $800-$1200, why not buy an original? They can be had in good condition for that.

Re: 358 Win Barnes TSX load for Condor Zone
I'd check Winchester 760 - its very high energy/volume. That, or W748 - which is a little faster and usually a good bet for any 308-based cartridge - also a ball powder.

Good lookin rig there. I have an EP Saddlery belt very similar to that - only mine's got 12 guage loops to the left - CAS rig. Only looks like your's is a money belt. Here's a pic of mine with my 95 Win before I installed the Lyman aperture sight: http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//500/HPIM1290.JPG

I've found that I really like Scotties, particularly for their personalities. Duncan is very docile with people. He's very friendly but fiercely independent and very protective of his family. He's taken on dogs much larger than him when he's felt that my daughter and I were being threatened. The ne...

Re: Barnes solid 30 cal 165 grain flat point
Well, the nose length looks like it would work for a 30-30 and I know that the triple shocks with the same caneluer cuts in the bullet shaft handle pressure just like normal cup n core bullets, so the loads should be similar. Personally, I don't see much advantage to this if you can use hard cast le...

Re: Marlin 336 RC misfire fix?
The two piece firing pin is a safety device, and the spring is supposed to push the rear section down out of alignment with the front section, that is how it works. When the lever is fully closed the locking block pushes the rear section up so it is properly aligned. This cannot be seen! All your f...

Re: Back to square one
The tumbling/keyholing got my attention. The bullets are not gripping the rifeling or are not going fast enough to stabalize. I would definately check the diameter of the bullets - I also use Laser cast/Oregon Trail bullets and have found them to be consistent and of high quality - but you never kno...

Great - sounds great! I prefer still hunting. Nothing wrong with stand hunting - I just like to get out and stalk when feasible. And hunting during the day is also preferred - nothing like trying to tell if what you're looking at is a boar or a sow and which end is pointing which way - by the light ...

I wondered about that. The moly is usually applied with some kind of wax - like floor wax that dried hard. That would certainly explain the gas check dilema. And just to clarify - when I say clean thoroughly, I mean really thoroughly as the moly gets into the voids in the bore metal. I also clean th...

Killing power is most definately quantifiable. It's just that the parameters are such that its very difficult to be exact. But within a generous margin of error, yes I believe it is. Consider the 30-30 Winchester and the .338 Winchester. The .338 posesses quite a bit more potential killing power tha...

good report! Thanks for posting. That first 177 grain cast bullet looks to have a moly coating? That may be what is causing the prob.s with the gas checks seating. Also, if it does have the moly, I'd suggest cleaning the bore really well and then trying the 150 gc cast bullets again - looks like you...

Well, I was able to figure it all out. Removing the bolt was quite easy and the drill & tap operation went smoothly. It did feel a bit harsh drilling a hole in this old rifle, but as I've mentioned in a previous thread, its been refinished, barrel shortened and recrowned. Otherwise I wouldn't ev...

The 95 is just a 336 Action.
