Re: LEVERGUNS S. Africa SAFARI 2010

If you want to go, don't hesitate, sign up! I went this year with my brother. We were the only ones to sign up, so it was very very small group. There was one other hunter in camp. A nice fellow from France. Photos of my trophies: http://i674.photobucket.com/albums/vv103/HRBang/050709AHWKudu1.jpg Th...

Re: No more Ruger Leverguns...?

I got a 22 magnum a couple of years ago. After a trigger job by Todd Toenges, it is my favorite rimfire.

Grab one if you can!

HELP! Marlin 1895 Disassembly Goof

I was taking my relatively new Marlin 1895 apart to clean from the breech and removed the finger lever screw without opening the action part way. I could not get the lever or the bolt out. I got the screw back in, but the action is jammed with the lever down about 1". How do I unjam without dam...

Safari Time!

Hello everyone, I am one of the three people signed up for the 2009 Leverguns safari in South Africa. My brother is one of the other two. I have not met the third yet. We need more people in the party! To this end, I am going to describe why I am going and my preparations. Perhaps it will get one or...

Ruger 96 22 Magnum Range Report

The woodchuck in my backyard has annoyed me suffciently for me to sight in my new Ruger 96 22 Magnum. I have had the rifle for almost a year, but the factory trigger pull was so bad it became a dust collector. A month or so ago I sent the lever mechanism to Todd Toenges (www.ttshooter.com) for help....

Hey, all this is great. What I gather from the discussion is the 45-70 is probably equal to the 375 in stopping power, but is easier to shoot quickly. From the old Peter Capstick books (Death in the Long Grass), the aiming point for a charging buff is the nose as the horn boss covers the brain. This...

Let me put it another way. Say you make a good shot at say 50 yards on a nice buff. At the hit, he turns right at you on a dead run. Would you rather have in your hands:

A. 45-70 lever action
B. 375 H&H (or 375 Ruger) bolt action

Either with any load you desire

Cape Buffalo with a 45-70?

Hello all, I am new to this forum, but I have been "lurking" for some time. I finally signed up because I would really like to go on the next levergun Africa safari. To this aim, I have recently been checking out rifles for Cape Buffalo. I wouldn't hunt them in South Africa, but my plan is...
