Re: A Question about my Browning 1886
The curved steel buttplate will tell you that you like trapdoor loads.I put a pad on mine.Mine doesn't have enough throat for 500 gr.Hornady's seated to the cannelure but they will feed from the mag tube. The twist a little slow for them too.Lyman 457125 will feed and chamber,at least they do in mine...

Re: Rossi 92 - My next move
Rossi is sending fedex to pick up the rifle.I would rather they give me my money back as the dealer won't because it's been back once already. We'll see if they have anyone there that can put a new barrel on without screwing it up.

Re: OT- Strength Of Damascus Barrels....Kind of made me chuckle.
35 years ago or so I worked part time for a gunsmith. One day a fellow in his late 60's or ealy 70's brought in a damascus barreled side by side with a broken hammer spring on one side. His grandson was with him.My employer refused to work on it. The guy really didn't like this and said he had been sh...

Re: Rossi 92 - My next move
Got my new Rossi back from Braztech today.I sent it to them because I could not zero it at 50 yds. let alone 100.It shot Really high and to the left off the paper.I had to move the rear sight partialy out of the dovetail to hit the paper. With the evlevation all the way down it hit about a foot high...

Re: OT- Just got back from seeing "True Grit".
I've read the book.I've seen the John Wayne version so many times I almost know the lines. Saw the new movie yesterday morning. The new one is a darker movie than the original. It is closer to the book. The scene where Mattie deals with the sleazy used horse dealer is great. So is the court room scene....

Re: Peeps for Hunting/Field Use
If I had a Browning 1886 that had to be D/T'd for a peep, I would D/T two holes - one in the top/rear of each action side rail - for a Williams top-mounted FP meant for the angle-eject Win 94AE. Hmmm, yet even another option. Has anyone actually tried this? The 86 is alot wider than the 94.That mig...

Re: Question about reaming a chamber 30-30 to 30-30 AI...
Those loads look pretty stiff to me.The velocity's looks tempting though. Those powder charges are as high as what is called for in a 300 savage and there ain't as much room.I've used loads similar to those, not quit that high but close.Got 2700 fps with 150 gr. speers fortunatly they grouped poorly o...

Re: Question about reaming a chamber 30-30 to 30-30 AI...
I sure like Hodgdon 4895 and H335 in the .30-30AI. Both powders meet my velocity goals and provide good accuracy. I’ve said before you could start and stop your powder search with 4895. Have you found H4895 and H335 to be interchangeable grain for grain with your 150- and 170-grain loads? I haven't...

Yeah, if I wasn't replacing the barrel I wouldn't have removed the old that's for sure. It was on there quite snug! Thanks for the information - I need to subscribe to the ammo guide.... I 'm new here ,but been lurking for some time.I've had a 30/30 AI for over 20 years,5000 rounds or so down the t...
