I have 3 centerfire calibers, 30-06, 44 mag, 45 auto. the puppy of the groupe is 5 decades old. the other two are both a century old. There is nothing out there less than 50 yrs old that will fill any niche that I have.

My bullets out of the mold weigh in at 318 grs ready to load. Feeds like a champ, good bullet, but not for my 4 5/8 vaqueros, as the heavy load kicks like @#$%^mule on steroids.

Uh, yahhhhh, but how do I set it up. thats the problem. Marking on top and or bottom does not guide the bit through. How do I level the stock both vertically and allign with where the holes in the tangs are.

I have loaded thousands of 06, but a tad nervous about the M-1 and it's gas operation. When loading for a bolt gun you can play around a lot more with powder and bullet weight, and all of the rest.

Is there a mechanical reason that the short mag tube on a marlin with either an 18" or 20" 45-70 could not be replaced with a full lenght mag tube?
I realize that it would only give one or two rounds, but the short tube just does not look balanced.
